Or maybe they were appreciating the positive aspects of a concept without restricting the idea to one flawed implementation.

It's like saying communism is nice because sick people don't have to work as much as healthy people for a good standard is living. Responding "well Stalin killed 60 million people" isn't really meaningfully engaging with OP.
