I don't know that much about the curse but i agree, that doesn't sound like it'd do it.

I guess the in Marcel universe excuse is Canada has a bunch of unknowable old first nation gods and spirits .

Whoever was in charge of the Wendigo curse was like "close enough!"

(and fair enough given he was a white settler)
