If the election of a single person can spell the end of your “democracy,” how democratic really was it in the first place?
Considering one of the major candidates didn't even go through anything resembling a primary process, I am going with "not very".
Am I right, do I win?
The funny thing is they could’ve ran a lightning election, but the Democratic Party is terrified about, “what if voters don’t choose the anointed candidate?!”
What are you saying you can run an election in less than 4 months?
Yeah, before Harris there was discussion of doing a lightning primary with just mail-in votes or at least settling at the convection instead of just anointing Kamala.
Similar train of thought, the other day I was posing a question to someone who can be pretty lib, like, if the republicans are such a terrible fascist threat, why aren't the powers in charge doing more to suppress them? Instead of just letting them do what they want electorally and being like "we'll vote them out." I think I actually got through to them a bit on that specific point. Like existential threat to "democracy", supposedly, but we're gonna let em do a popularity contest and get power that "takes away democracy", what sense does that make.
