Yeah, but even under medieval usury laws, the Jewish bankers that scream about didn't actually own any of that money due to it all being claimed by the crown under special, Jew-only taxes.
that is true also this is an area of grand hypocrisy as Jews of the time would lend money to the aristocracy (which given that English Jews were legally slaves of the king practically functioned as a means of consolidating power away from the lesser aristocracy and into the crown especially as the prohibition on Jewish landownership meant land owed as collateral would go to the king)
anyway the reason this is such hypocrisy is that while the aristocracy were chafing under usery of owing money they also made all their money by lending in kind to peasants and having them pay in work worth more than what they were lent. Which is in every way but the most technical of loopholes some of the most abominable usery imaginable that kept generations in what can fairly be called a form of slavery
wage theft is in fact 5x more common than regular theft
