It’s basically just the German word for Air Force, I’ve seen the US Air Force referred to as “US Luftwaffe” in German before. More notable is that when they reformed they just rehired a bunch of the same dudes from the Nazi version
And honestly change the name anyway

Well it is now the Bundeswehr Luftwaffe rather than the Wehrmacht Luftwaffe that existed from 1935-1945
