...why are courtroom sketch artist still a thing?

[–] [email protected] 26 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Because it's usually not allowed to take pictures in court

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago (2 children)

That's not a real reason. Most courts are recorded, have stenographer and apparently sketch artists. There's absolutely no reason for court sketch artists to exist in modern society. It's just silly and wreaks of some conservative tradition.

I don't think providing steady employment to a local artist is the worst thing taxes support.

If we're gonna be handing out money for totally worthless tasks, oh boy imma be rich

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Be real, bro, you already do that.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

....are you illiterate? That's exactly what I said.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I called your current job useless, actually, but don't worry your pretty little head about the details.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Oh, you are illiterate. Ok then.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Had to think a bit for that one, huh?

Understandable for your situation.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Those recordings are not available to the public though, right? Isn’t that the difference? Or am I just mislead here?

I see why the tradition of it feels conservative. But I dunno. I think it’s cool. Seems like good culture.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

But why? Seems arbitrary and antiquated

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Think it's to protect the identities of people

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's working well, I definitely do not know it's trump Jr there.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's not who it's supposed to be protecting lol

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Then who’s it supposed to protect?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Witnesses, the jury, people like that

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Because AI aren't allowed in court, yet...

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

"Why does the defendant have a different number of fingers in every scene?"

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

-AI flips you off with 13 middle fingers on each hand

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Artist is better for privacy.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Only proportionally to how much they suck at their craft

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

More like for not accidentally including jury members in the shot
