/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

They address Geordie's desire to not be "cured" so many times in the series that I question whether or not you've watched it.

We don't really care about 100% adherence to established canon around here. Especially if it's amusing.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 9 months ago (4 children)

Okay but this erases the much larger discussion about ableism, something that Geordie's character (sometimes clumsily) personifies.
"Don't fix me, I'm not broken".

Who said the mockery chip was politically correct?

I suppose, but so does him getting cybernetic eyes in the movies.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 9 months ago

not if you only consider is cyberEyes to be mere upgrades to his visor (which, if you'll recall, also hurt him to use) rather than a "cure".

Ok this is making me really think I need to watch this show. It’s a statement I’m often frustrated that able folks don’t get that some of us have.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago

I do have to warn you, the quality varies. Rick Berman and, strangely, Gene Roddenberry himself, both held the show back: forcing rewrites; being sleazebags; crushing cast interpretations of their own roles; and projecting their hangups onto the franchise for as long as they could.
Progressiveness isn't always linear.

One thing that has bothered me in cannon was that he specifically stated he didn't want ocular implants and jeep his visor in the show but when the movies rocked up suddenly he was implanted up.

Now I'm not saying people xant change there mind but I found it jarring without the fuckit doc just cut me moment

[–] [email protected] 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Owning glasses and refusing contacts, I kinda feel him after my 10th pair with bent up ear stocks.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Oh I get it I'm exactly in the same place but 20 years.

I think part of the reason I found it jaring was due to him being so adiment so often to the point he found it funny that he saved that colony based on some filter his vizor used for a colony that would never have let someone like him exist

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

In universe reasons aside, those do not look like fun to wear on set when you're trying to remember your lines and actions.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 months ago

I'm assuming the implants were more advanced after a decade or two of research. So whatever bothered him about implants was solved.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I love it when he Jeeps his visor

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

This sounds like key and Peele.

He put the jeepin on the chain visor

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

fucking jeeple shake my smh head

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

IIRC, the implants didn't function right for him so he stuck with the visor. I think it was mentioned that the tech had improved since he first tried, but he liked how his visor provided more visual info than the implants. I always assumed he just changed his mind when he got older and wasn't crewing a starship.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

Agreed, should have been on camera.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 9 months ago

Welcome to tenforward, where the points are made up and canon reasons don’t matter.

The joke part of this Internet picture joke is that there's an android teasing a person.
