Maybe the miscommunication in this whole concept is the word "work". What about at a restaurant or near family?

I think the "work" bit is a verbal crutch, what people want is a way to better scope their experience to content more appropriate for their current situation whatever it may be.

As a side note, if there can be a sort of tag that denotes things like half naked anime characters, I would be the first one to permanently filter them out of my feed because they contribute absolute zero value to my experience here. Not trying to be a downer but it's just not for me. I'm glad there are people who enjoy that and can have that.

Moreover I don't think these need to be on a single scale. Like, trauma isn't "more" than pornographic, it's just something completely different (ideally).

There can be a scale of safe to unsafe for a variety of reasons, and people might be able to filter what they see more proactively based on their own tolerances (and interests).

But then again complexity can be a deterrence. Tagging and cataloging can be a big content management problem and I think most want to do the simplest thing possible.

But maybe content advisory could be a crowd sourced effort, using a up/down ranking on explicit categories just like we can do on posts.

Yes, they should be. For the same exact reason anything that is taboo but socially acceptable but definitely unprofessional should be. Real boobs, cartoon boobs, it doesn't bother me at all but it makes me very much less likely to browse lemmy in a public setting. Setting morals completely aside, if you want this platform to thrive, you'll have to be compassionate to the consumers of it, the user base. The community can definitely make this thing not usable if they want to. It's about being practical.

  1. have your passport and any other docs in order now, if you're making all these contingencies.

  2. make more objective and less speculative assessments.

  3. find ways to enjoy yourself family and friends now. And build relationships and support systems with people you know and people in your community. Lines of communication and a habit of community work will help alleviate your doomy outlook for now, and help you build a network when it's time to respond to a bad situation, if one arises.

Stay constructive. Everyone has a plan til they get punched in the mouth, so if you aren't trained in combat or conflict theory, you should just keep assessing your current situation, and if you want to get out, if you truly believe Montreal is a more comfortable place for you, then go ahead now, why wait, it sounds very nice. Though I would appreciate it if you're here to vote to help our chances of correcting the illegitimate court system.

Anyway always ask yourself, "what is the best possible thing I can do right now?".

What Republicans hate about China is their big lead on the human rights abuse game... They're trying to catch up.

You know, you don't have to. Try having a goal to feel as good as possible as often as possible. If caffeine helps, so be it, if it harms, so be it.

I do... I'm not a huge bread eater, it can go a couple weeks in the fridge without getting moldy where I live.

I am curious about podcasts with high quality content but that are pretty centered around specific topics like hobbies or particular professions.

For example, there are a handful of ham radio podcasts such as Linux In The Ham Shack.

Tell me about some podcasts that keep you up in your interests or career that wouldn't make sense to share with most people you know.

I am currently redesigning my kitchen in a 1930's Midwestern USA house. The kitchen has a decent floor area but the floor plan is oddly restrictive.

My space next to the sink is such that I can either have a standard 24" dishwasher next to the sink and a slightly weird cabinet adjacent to it, or I could have an 18 inch dishwasher at 45 degrees flanked by two small but reasonably sized cabinet doors (or drawers), although the 45 degree plan would dictate a somewhat shallow custom counter depth on the flanks (like 18-20 inches).

I think I would be more proud of the accomplishment of building the angled design, and I think the ergonomics would be optimal.

But I'm not sure about the smaller dishwasher. I have never used a smaller one. It seems like it would be enough for my small family and still plenty helpful for gatherings.

And if you somehow disagree with flushing it down if it is brown, I suppose I would like to hear about that as well.

How often do you clean them, and how? Any cautionary tales?
