He didn't cancel shit. He had just existing debt forgiveness programs prioritized and pushed for them to process the applications sooner.
All the cancelled debt would've been cancelled regardless of anything Biden did.
wait for real?! this is some wild shit. even more of a demonic neoliberal move than i thought holy shit
As far as I could tell it's all through the same public service loan forgiveness program that's existed for years.
I have to preface this with a fervent Fuck Joe Biden
but
my husband's loans were totally forgiven last fall, years earlier than expected, just on a normal IDR/IBR plan, and (based on payment history) I think mine will probably get the same treatment later this year
We don't have public service jobs, just average capitalist wage-slave bullshit until we started doing our small engine stuff full-time last summer, so Derp Brandon did something for us.
Was it nearly enough? Can I actually afford my house or groceries or medical expenses? No, absolutely not, Joe Bidet hasn't helped me very much. But he did take a few tens of thousands of debt off our back, which I guess deserves acknowledgement.
Tbqh, Trump's elimination of the health insurance mandate helped us a fuckton more. We were getting absolutely fucked on premiums for insurance with deductibles so high we couldn't afford to use it at all.
