The Imperium of Man maintains an alliance with the Adeptus Mechanicus via the Treaty of Olympus Mons which grants the Adeptus Mechanicus nominal independence and de facto autonomy in return for supplies of technology and weaponry. Without this critical alliance, the Imperium would have fallen long ago.
