i've lived in apartments, townhomes, houses, and mobile homes. cities, suburbs, and rural areas

the only thing i didn't like about apartments or townhomes is the noise bleeding through. build a big, robust commie block with thick concrete walls dividing the units and turning them into cool, dark stone caves and you've got a deal

It is quite annoying how shitty the soundproofing and climate control is in a lot of old apartment buildings. I've stayed overnight in some modern luxury apartments, and was shocked at how good modern soundproofing was between rooms just in the same apartment, to say nothing of the sound isolation between units. Dense housing doesn't have to suck, it's just that there's zero reason why landlords would upgrade or redevelop when the existing buildings make such mad bank for them.
