“I'm only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” President Carter reportedly told loved ones

That's some Cosmic Chump behavior

A sense of the PRC’s demographic structure and geographic disparity thus explains why the CCP has publicly called for a technology and manufacturing moonshot even as it deliberately engineered the destruction of over one trillion dollars of software company share value—without, it must be said, impeding in any evident way its continued progress in telecom, chip design, or export manufacturing.

Line go down... but industry more productive?! stonks-down

This is a pretty interesting read. The author is correctly identifying a major upending of US economic power... but the liberal ideological blinders are really hampering him from arriving at some obvious conclusions about what the US could be doing to maintain their dominant position.

This is the censorship that Vance was talking about about

It's a race to develop the Torment Nexus before civilization collapses from climate change disasters.

Remember all the neoliberals crowing about how capitalism produces abundant cheap food?

I became an expert on setting the timer on the VCR so that it would record multiple shows at different time segments on Adult Swim. Then I would have to watch them the next day because I only had 1 tape that I was recording over every night. It got really scratchy looking after awhile.

You can watch Ethan and Hila's video directly without the commentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytOl5hbTrCY

In her own words, she wasn't merely a disinterested conscript. She took the initiative to directly involve herself with the occupation and oppression of the West Bank.

It's crazy how 9/11 scrambled everyone's brain so much. They had spent the better part of the 90s watching an incredibly popular TV show about how the hegemonic American government was engaged nefarious plots and was not to be trusted.

Extremely funny if they cancel the third part of the trilogy

My teacher went on a long rant about how the Mexican/American War of the 1848s was totally justified because of the provocations and corruption of the Mexican government, and how they weren't doing enough development in Texas, and in any case Texas was ethnically white and should have belonged to the USA anyhow. It took me years before I thought about how weird that rant was.

I want to host some LAN parties this winter, and am looking for some Free Software Games that would be a fun time. We already play some Counterstrike and StarCraft 2, but I want to expand into some actual Free games. Windows compatibility is a must, MacOS compatibility is desirable!

The two on my radar are:

  • Hedgewars, which seems like a strong candidate. We played a ton of Worms 2 in the 90s
  • 0 A.D., since we're already fans of RTS games.

But I know there must be some wacky ones out there which would be suitable for 30 minutes of pick up play.

The 2040 plan is mainly an ending of single-family zoning. Anecdotally, I've seen a lot more apartments going up around the Twin Cities in the last few years. The Frey regime are neoliberal ghouls, and this is a classic YIMBY approach to tackling housing shortages. The opponents of this plan are somehow even worse, an astroturfed army of KKKarens.

Choice quote: "Residents of color already face significant barriers to home ownership, which would have been exacerbated under the plan as a result of reduced access to and availability of single family properties," said activist Nekima Levy Armstrong, a member of the plaintiffs' legal team, in a statement calling Tuesday's ruling a "major victory."

What are the Hexbear thoughts on this whole situation?
