“Some wonder why there was such overwhelming support for us to shut down potentially TikTok or other entities of that nature. If you look at the postings on TikTok and the number of mentions of Palestinians relative to other social media sites, it’s overwhelmingly so among TikTok broadcasts. So I’d note that’s of real interest, and the President will get the chance to make action in that regard,” Romney said.

Blinken's statement serves as a poignant reminder of the west's increasing ineptitude and desperate attempts at control. The direct access provided by social media allows people to see through the carefully crafted narratives and manipulated images that once shielded western propaganda from scrutiny.

This unfiltered exposure, coupled with the emotional resonance it evokes, has left western leaders grasping for straws in their attempts to maintain control over public opinion. In a desperate bid to regain some semblance of authority, they're resorting to banning platforms like TikTok which only serves as further evidence of the west's waning influence and growing irrelevance on the world stage.

As a side note, nothing reveals that US is a single party system like Blinken being interviewed by Romney at the fucking McCain institute.

If the US' official self-understanding as a country with the rule of law, checks and balances and strong protection of private property is true, the TikTok ban should be overturned by any court.

If.

We've let interpretation drift from intent and our politicians speak out of both sides of their mouths.

I'm pro-x, but this type of x causes harm because y.

The US corporate social media platforms are part of the US military-industrial-intellegence complex now. Look at their boards of directors and executives. Look at Twitter. Look at Facebook. Look at Hamilton 68. Look at Reddit:

They have their eye on the fediverse now, too: Atlantic Council » Collective Security in a Federated World

While this is just old-people being confused and told what to do by Israeli lobbyists, it's worth noting that the US has a great deal of influence over Facebook, many newspapers like the NYT, Washintgon Post, Youtube, and even Twitter. Not total control mind you, but enough where if they want a particular video delisted, or don't like that a trend is happening, they have ways they can shut it down.

Not so with Tiktok (or most of the other less popular social media apps.)

Look in the upper right hand corner, just below the The New Republic logo. See that? "Opinion".

People are acting as though this is factual news, rather than interpretation and spin.

It is factually Mitt Romney's opinion, who is a sitting senator. That is factual news, ot spin.

Taking someone's statements, and then spinning them to create your own narrative, is an opinion. If it's reporting, simply stick to what he said, and not your interpretation of what they meant by what they said, and what you believe that will result in.

What is the point of news if not to provide a broader context for the facts being reported? The reason CNN, Fox, and MSNBC are all fake news is not that they dont report facts, its because they fail to report the actual truth that the base level facts indisputably point to. Its quite easy to report only the facts that suggest a false narrative. For instance, those networks rarely if ever report the horrific acts being committed by israel daily, which gives their viewers the false impression that israel is a victim. Reporting only facts in that instance is the same thing as lying, becce they selectively leave out facts that show the narrative theyre pushing is a lie.
