A follow-up on an earlier report where people wondered how long it would take to get out of hand. The answer: Not long.

Changes are on the horizon for the live portal between Dublin and New York City following instances of Manhattan residents being bombarded with images of 9/11 and adult content displayed on mobile phone screens.

An unpleasant turn took place late Saturday night as yet another anti-social incident unfolded on the Irish side of the camera, featuring everything from bared bottoms to displays of hateful swastikas. It was just a few hours after the May 8th launch that an incident led to a woman's arrest by An Garda Siochana when she bizarrely decided to grind her posterior against the portal - she's expected to make a court appearance in the coming weeks.

The renowned New York Post didn't hold back, labelling the installation as the "portal to hell" while directing a fiery message at the locals - "keep your arses in your trousers".

...

The portal's location at the junction of O'Connell St and North Earl St had already sparked criticism, with many pointing out the area is a known spot for anti-social activity. University lecturer Patrick Stafford told RTE's Liveline: "It was very obvious that thing was going to happen."

Here is the 911 incident.

Well duh. You give the public a fun thing and it gets abused. That’s what you do.

Also, I wouldn’t exactly worry about offending New Yorkers. The worst Dubliners can do is just another average day in NYC.

Also, I imagine New Yorkers would just make car bomb/IRA jokes in return.

Wait till you learn who funded the IRA in the 70s and 80s...

So it's just people holding up their phone screens to show pics of offensive things?

And grinding their arse against the portal.

Maybe that's just their way of saying "Hello!"

I must go back to Dublin soon to find out.

Yes, but that's to be expected, no?

I was expecting it, apparently those in charge weren't.

The Americans should retaliate by doing a St Patrick’s Day parade past the portal - the Irish absolutely love all the stereotypical Leprecaun and four-leaf clover imagery and “my great-great-great-grandfather was part Irish” stories.

911 is fair game but a St Patrick's Day parade means war!
