Hi, my name is Khan and I am the person behind Devabhumi. I am of Indian origin, and I have always been interested in non-European rpg settings. There is such a treasure trove of untapped stories, monsters, and legends in Indian Culture, which can provide fresh and unique content for your campaigns. Devabhumi is a high fantasy TTRPG setting inspired by the history and epics of Ancient India. This setting features:

  • 100+ pages of lore
  • A karma mechanic
  • 6 new races
  • 20+ backgrounds and feats
  • And much more!

You can sign up for the Kickstarter here.

We are going live in a week!

How much is system specific? I don't really play DND or other d20 games much anymore. Playing Fate now, for instance.

I'd say 30% of it is system specific, with stat blocks and items. The remaining 70% is lore, worldbuilding, gods, etc.

As a fellow brown dnd player I'm interested. I think it would help to have a snippet of lore though. I couldn't find one at a glance, though your maps seem nice.

I'm also curious if you reworked equipment. Dnd considers pretty much all non-European equipment (weapons, shields, armor) to be "exotic" and is therefore barred from many standard classes. Obviously a dm could also rule on this but I'm curious.

Thank you! The events in the land of Devabhumi take place in the Dwapara-Yuga, where new technologies and magic are used quite often among different nations and states. The world is in a delicate balance with the emergence of these technologies, the rising ambition of various kings and queens, and the growing power of Asuras.

We have reworked equipment entirely with new weapons, properties, armor, etc.

Non-european settings are always nice to see. Heck, I'm European and I'm tired of how little variation there is in fantasy. It's always a copy-paste of tired tropes and familiar landscapes. People should be allowed to go nuts with their fantasy setting.

Best of luck with your project!

Just don't screw over Sikhs and Punjab like the British did IRL and you have my interest.

Damn that hit close to home. On a real note, Devabhumi will not attempt to represent or caricature any real-world religious group or ethnicity. This is purely a fantasy setting and will be treated as such.

Will you be able to make it available on D&D Beyond like MCDM did with his recent releases?

It's really nice to be able to have everything in D&D Beyond since there are so many extensions, tools, etc. integrated with it. For example, anything in D&D Beyond just works with Beyond 20, Discord, Owlbear Rodeo, Roll 20, and can be imported into Foundry VTT or Obsidian. That really makes prep easier as a DM and simplifies things for the players as well.

I have to see if I can list the title on D&D beyond, but I definitely would! We just went live on Kickstarter fyi. If you're interested, check it out here.

Without having a specific contract Hasbro is going to take most of the profit for a small creator probably not worth it.

Based on khanjan's map stuff he'll make it roll20 and vtt compatible.

I'm playing an Indian (Bangladeshi) themed Loxodon (elephant man) right now. It's great fun. I've been reading bits of Hindu religion to incorporate a specific morale stance on things. Eg, I think he'll have the view that he's going to have an arranged marriage when he gets back to his homelands, therefore won't be acting a sleaze (which I don't like anyway) in the game.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ooh, the idea of a South Asian Loxodon is cool!

I googled war elephants and got ancient India for inspo.
