Just a side note, who the fuck uses normie outside of 4chan? Leave that shit over there

Normie is incredibly common online in general. It’s not just relegated to weird right wing sites either.
I’m in my mid 30s and even I gotta say… you sound a bit like “old man yells at cloud” with this take. Just chill out a little bit. You’re making the rest of us approaching-middle-agers look bad.
And if you’re somehow younger than me then I gotta say… actually, keep it up. Your apparent lack of being terminally-online (oh no, I used a recently coined term…) is definitely healthier than whatever the fuck the rest of us are doing.
I would love to give off “old man yelling at clouds” energy. If I had a lawn, I’d yell at people to stay off it, but sometimes very quietly so I can eavesdrop on their drama.
I don’t see normie used online often, and OP was clear it was meant to be mildly insulting, along the lines of basic:
Oh, what’s a better word to describe someone who is super mainstream and only likes something if other people like it or they were told to like it?
Is it yelling at clouds to remind people to be nicer to each other?
You guys are three levels deep debating whether or not a slang word is acceptable to use to use. I'm afraid none of you qualify, if anything you are the total opposite side of the spectrum from yelling old man.
I'm going to need more being offensive and talking about how things use to be much better. Something like this:
Back in my day people weren't so sensitive, people used whatever words they wanted and nobody cared or said anything about it. I didn't hear my first debate on whether or not a word should be used until I was 30 years old. Now you can't even add ie to the end of norm without some whippersnapper writing a 30 page buzzfeed article about it.
oh my god you're right. I need to go find my grouchy pants (they sit somewhere just below my chin) and get on that...
I let people play on my lawn just to bring balance to the universe. Unless they don't clean up their dog's shit. Then old man mode erupts.
Oh, what's a better word to describe someone who is super mainstream and only likes something if other people like it or they were told to like it?
I really don't see what the problem is, the other commenter is overreacting
Yea, I was just trying to vent my frustrations and joke around while I look at this Galaxy Z Flip for the 9th time. Tough crowd, I don't even use 4chan. Maybe I should stick with iOS, at least my iPhone cult friends have chill rofl (unless you are talking about leaving iOS).
Average? Normal?
That isn’t a very useful way to categorize people, almost everyone is very much normal including yourself.
Wanting a different phone isn’t an expression of individuality, it’s just a phone. If you wanna be real quirky and novel, don’t use one at all (YMMV)
You're like the Patrick Bateman of cellphones.
It's just a cellphone. You'll live.
I don't understand posts like this, tbh. I live in the US where iOS is predominant, and never have I ever been made fun of or "shamed" for using Android devices outside of some occasional "hey iPhones are cool, you should get one. Android phones are kind of lame". What is this bizarro world that people like OP are living in? Is it a teen thing?
Lol right? Apparently this person's entire social circle judges each other based on... their cellphone? Wat
The only thing better about iphones compared to most androids is the video recording quality. Otherwise there's nothing to justify having an iphone over android. Some counters to bring up to people that defend iphones: "I can customize anything I want with android" "I can get real privacy with android if I degoogle it" "android gets real innovation in new phones, not just another camera" Anyways, best of luck switching.
I think the biggest advantage of Android over iOS is the availability of consumer choice. There are so many different Android phones on the market, each with their respective pros and cons, that there is bound to be a device that aligns with your needs.
Now that can also be an advantage of iOS over Android in a sense. With Android you have to make a choice and it can be the wrong one. With the iPhone there is one option, and it is what it is.
I don't have much to contribute to the conversation except to say I don't have any idea why you're getting downvotes. I've never used any iOS device (and in fact I'm a late adopter of smartphones in general) but I've heard some of why people prefer iOS over Android. Mostly just that Android's got a reputation among some folks for being "poor people phones." Meanwhile, I had no understanding of the appeal of the walled garden kind of locked down approach that governs iOS (at least a little) more than Android. It's interesting to me to understand a bit better, and this post did that for me.
Yes, Apple is trendy among most crowds. It's like what black champion sweatshirts were to college kids.
But I will agree it's perfect for the low to average technical background person. You don't have to worry about a password manager, a decent one is build in, you don't have to worry about a messaging app, a good one is built in. I believe the term is "it just works". There's no way I'd suggest something different for say my Mom, it's perfect for her. With a little tutoring she has secure passwords sets for all her sites and did it all herself. I doubt she would of been able to accomplish that with any other system.
But then that leads to the problem that she likes it so much that she doesn't want me to change and leave her ecosystem that she's so proud of figuring out lol.
What's a normie?
In the context it's someone non-techie
I consider myself non-techie, though I'm one of two people in my office who can add a printer. I'm Android. Have a work iPad and it pisses me off everytime i use it.
