Convincing people to buy a tent for 3k, then shipping them a couple tarps you had some interns throw together is a hell of a grift lmao

[–] [email protected] 38 points 5 months ago

The best part is that it's not even that difficult to make the thing on the left panel.

If I was a different type of person I would absolutely be grifting right wingers hard. I’m talkin no remorse selling whatever whatever it takes to stroke their ego type shit because these people are literally primed to just give their money away to the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen. The only thing stopping me are those damn morals.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's not immoral to fleece bad people who can afford it. Just make sure you're not perpetuating ideas that are gonna get a comrade hurt.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (2 children)

That’s why I can’t do it, they only buy things that reinforce their ideas, which are harmful as fuck.

Yeah. I probably could have made some scratch peddling a "covid cure" but undermining the public trust in the vaccines would make me a terrible person. I got too many scruples to take it that far. I could probably sell them some dumbass shirts and feel okay but the real money is all tied up in issues that actually have collateral damage.

Look, if somebody can convince some New Yorker writer to put their life savings into a shoebox and hand it to a "CIA agent" in an SUV, you can probably come up with something that will keep the damage isolated.

Have Tesla people even seen (I know, very hard task) the other EVs that are out? The Hyundai/Kia ones look fantastic and they’re cheaper, look better and have an actual auto manufacturer behind them

I don't mean to cast aspersions but I think average Cybertruck owners believe Elon is going to build cities on Mars. Not only that. They'll live there. If a conman learns his mark is a Cybertruck owner - he'll be thrilled because it's easy money. But it's no challenge at all to take candy from a baby.

a Hyundai is not going to impress Stacy Weinmuller down the street, the Weinmullers have a Polestar

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

How the Chinese are already in the US market

[–] [email protected] 37 points 5 months ago (1 children)

At first look I thought the second picture was somebody's diy trashbag tent but no that's what they're really selling for 3 grand

[–] [email protected] 27 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (3 children)

That was my thought too.

This is a rhetorical question and I'm crazy to keep asking it - but how the ever loving fuck does Elon keep pulling this crap? Today Elon could say "By 2030 there will be 100,000 people on Mars here is the concept art..." and they're walking around outside in regular clothes. They don't need spacesuits because Elon is gonna a make a gigantic upsidedown fishbowl dome filled with oxygen. Some people will still believe him. In fact - they might get very angry if you politely say it can't happen. I just don't get it.

I still think the funniest one was when he announced his new robot and it was literally just a guy

RoboT*xi for me - it's T*sla's Infrastructure Week

Also bringing out the Roast*r they've never delivered to scam more preorders a little while back, bonus points for claiming a driving range (aka battery size) that's totally implausible for the claimed footprint.

Dazzle em with brilliance or baffle em with bullshit.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago

Is that a tent or is it happy to see me?brow

You could buy a pair of truly incredible Hilleberg tents for that price.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 5 months ago

Tents that aren’t affixed to cybertruck are Hamas, though.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago

Hilleberg tents

I know it's just a surname for a camping company but somehow it makes me think it's a drug reference.

"You got a Hilleberg tent or nah?"

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I feel that merely interfering with engineering doesn't suffice as an explanation for all this bullshit. Something that isn't horrendous would slip through the cracks on the days when melon-musk is off on a publicity stunt or begging for subsidies, but no, nothing ever does. I think there's some sort of fear of showing up the boss that has otherwise self-respecting engineers who aren't on as many pills as their CEO shittifying their own work to keep their jobs.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

Cost cutting would be my guess.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago

I'm convinced Grimes rented Trafic and watched it while Musk was in a Ketamine stupor and when he "woke up" he decided to make the Altra camper-car.

Everyone should watch Trafic, it's great.

Even the concept art is super ugly lmao

cheap knockoff of the Pontiac Aztek

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

At first I thought you were replying to this - https://hexbear.net/comment/4934026

I actually sort of convinced myself that the Aztek had spats. I couldn't remember the shape of the car other than it's a chunky blob.

For 3k I can buy a cool retro RV or a box van

The new Pope Mobile is looking pretty sick.
