Iran has been trying to evade sanctions and continue selling its oil abroad, while the U.S. and its allies have been seizing cargoes since 2019 after the country’s nuclear deal allowing the trade collapsed.

You misspelled "since 2019 when Trump blew up the only good thing that the US has done in the middle east for God knows how long."

I agree Trump blew that up. That being said sanctions are the tool if the day now I guess. And if you don't enforce them, what is the point? Unless people want the US to send in troops.

Unless people want the US to send in troops.

Oh yah that went real well for them in Iraq and Afghanistan.

People are suggesting sanctions are theft so I am not sure what is left.

Literally high seas piracy.

And when Iran retaliates the US media reports that Iran seizes American cargo ships for no reason.

When the government does it, it's not illegal.

Also if the government allows a private entity to do it, it's not piracy, it's privateering.

No, this is called letter of Marque, distinct from piracy 🏴‍☠️

They claim to be pro-LGBTQ, but support North Korea, Russia, China, and Iran 🤣🤣

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah it's shameful that they use the queer community to spread their lies while supporting authoritarian governments that crush human rights.

Why oh why aren't you taking me seriously! Didn't you see my oversized emoji?!

I find that incredibly confusing. Wouldn't they realize that even if they were the staunchest supporters of those regimes, they'd still be seen as an enemy for being LGBTQ?

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How else would you suggest to enforce sanctions? Our are people suggestion the US send in troops? Our does the world just support these regimes?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sanctions are siege warfare.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks for the definition. So what is your solution or does the world just trade with these nations regardless what they do?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It's pretty clear I think all sanctions should be ended. All sanctions ever do is hurt the people.

"Solution". There isn't a way for us to force Iran to change. That has to come from within. Sanctions don't do that - siege warfare just forces everyone in Iran to hunker down and endure Western aggression, with the poorest being hurt the worst. The solution is peace.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

So keep trying and keeping those governments in power and wealth. Makes sense.

The decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran was a significant error on the part of the United States.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

this has been a very funny saga, beginning on May 30th I believe. apparently businesses were just too afraid of Iran to take the oil and congressmen had to get involved

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Ship-tracking data analyzed by The Associated Press showed the Marshall Islands-flagged Suez Rajan began the hourslong ship-to-ship transfer of its oil to another tanker, the MR Euphrates, near Galveston, some 70 kilometers (45 miles) southeast of Houston.

In July, the top commander of the Revolutionary Guard’s naval arm threatened further action against anyone offloading the Suez Rajan, with state media linking the recent seizures to the cargo’s fate.

The delay in offloading the Suez Rajan’s cargo had become a political issue as well for the Biden administration as the ship had sat for months in the Gulf of Mexico, possibly due to companies being worried about the threat from Iran.

In a letter dated Wednesday, a group of Democratic and Republican U.S. senators asked the White House for an update on what was happening with the ship’s cargo, estimated to be worth some $56 million.

“To ensure this never happens again, the Biden administration must enforce our existing sanctions, stop greenlighting the (Guard’s) terrorism and hostage ‘diplomacy’ and end this posture of appeasement to a nation that chants ‘death to America,’” she said.

On Sunday, Iranian state media released a video dated Thursday that showed the USS Bataan with small Guard fast boats trailing it as it traveled through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf through which 20% of the world’s oil passes.

The original article contains 1,002 words, the summary contains 228 words. Saved 77%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

Let’s try the “not using ableist slurs challenge”

You go first

Edit: I guessed wrong it’s misogyny not ableism
