a kid with a infatuation? O no the horror. It's fucking fine. If people want to laugh about it later in good spirits, awesome. If it's not in good spirits, then congratulations you have identified a asshole. Someone not worth giving two shits about.

Also deadwood. That show is fucking awesome and I am not particularly fanatic about western or cowboy culture.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Deadwood was a show about Rome, rethemed to the old west because HBO already had ROME going on

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Deadwood was about cops in a lawless place, not Rome. It was originally pitched as taking place in Rome, and the show ROME forced them to change the setting.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

The saloons were originally collegium, idk what you are trying to correct here.

Deadwood had a retheme to the west but it wasn’t really a western or a cowboy show.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

All you have to do it watch it. It does not have anything g to do with Rome. Again, the creator pitched it as taking place in Rome during the reign of Nero. Because the show is about cops in a place with no laws, not Rome.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

My dude I’m not going to argue with you about settled fact. In fact I’m not disagreeing with you except in saying that deadwood isn’t a show about cowboys.

Why is the best part cropped out?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Hey, please don't let the uninitiated hanging like that. :(

This looks AI generated, why didn't he just get the clothes and take a damn picture? That way it wouldn't look like shit

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The issue is that it would, because it's Elon.

[–] [email protected] 83 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The real tragedy is that he didn't stick to it. People who stop being willing to stand out make the world a more boring place.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 4 months ago

Hell yeah, people said "Howdy partner" to him. Fucking lean into that shit!

[–] [email protected] 74 points 4 months ago

Real cringe is adult quasi strangers teasing someone for what they did as a teenager.

[–] [email protected] 53 points 4 months ago (2 children)

This is more fun if anon is in Italy or something.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Given how many Westerns were from Italy (ie. Spaghetti Westerns), it would make some sense.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Spaghetti westerns were called spaghetti westerns because the directors were Italian:

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

TIL.

Seems starchy carb food has become part of the taxonomic system of naming western film styles.

Macaroni, spaghetti, ramen, paella

I demand that if a western gets made in Ireland it must be called a spud western.

They were also mostly produced in Europe, particularly Italy and Spain

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

and where were the spaghetti westerns shot?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago

The answer to your question is literally on the link I posted. The reason that I posted the link was both to cite a source, and also to provide further information for anyone curious about it. If the future, please go ahead and just click a link when someone provides it!

Most spaghetti Westerns filmed between 1964 and 1978 were made on low budgets, and shot at Cinecittà studios and various locations around southern Italy and Spain.[12] Many of the stories take place in the dry landscapes of the American Southwest and Northern Mexico, thus, common filming locations were the Tabernas Desert and the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, an area of volcanic origin known for its wide sandy beaches, both of which are in the Province of Almería in Southeastern Spain. Some sets and studios built for spaghetti Westerns survived as theme parks, such as Texas Hollywood, Mini Hollywood, and Western Leone, and continue to be used as film sets.[13] Other filming locations used were in central and southern Italy, such as the parks of Valle del Treja (between Rome and Viterbo), the area of Camposecco (next to Camerata Nuova, characterized by a karst topography), the hills around Castelluccio, the area around the Gran Sasso mountain, and the Tivoli's quarries and Sardinia. God's Gun was filmed in Israel.[14]

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And they were shot in Spain.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Many were shot in Spain! The Wikipedia link also notes some were shot in Italy, and one in Israel.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

That is why they said that.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Apparently there are a lot of Japanese people who are into cowboys so it would be funny and believable in Japan as well

[–] [email protected] 41 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

IDK why but this just made me think of Dodgeball.

"Who's Steve the Pirate?"

"Literally the only player on the team that dresses up like a pirate?"

"We have a player that dresses up like a pirate?!"

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

"Well then who will I share all this treasure with"

Arrrrr????

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago

Curse your sudden - but inevitable - betrayal!

Oh wait, wrong property.

You can do the cowboy look well. Ditch the long leather coat, the hat and the toothpick. Wear flannel button-ups and cowboy boots of a standard color with jeans of a standard color.

Don't copy phrases from movies, but speak slowly and politely. Don't do a strong accent, but it's ok to do a mild accent. Instead of tipping a hat, give a significant, thoughtful head nod as a greeting.

Check out Sam from TrueBlood as a good example.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

thats very specific advice

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Not just flannel because that shit gets hot in the summer. There are pearl snap western cut shirts that you can wear in the summer that won't kill you. They're much thinner.

Otherwise, pretty good advice here. And Sam wore those western shirts in addition to flannel.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You're right, I was conflating the two.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Oh! Well flannel is great for the winter and you can get western cut if you're really into that. I've got one of those in my closet.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (3 children)

If you want what real current day cowboys wear.

  • Boots (no over the top clasps, spurs, and stuff. Go for something like this: https://www.justinboots.com/)

  • Light blue jeans pants

  • white t shirt, can substitute a linen or seersucker button down if preferred. Plain or checkered pattern if doing button down.

  • western hat

  • belt with big buckle (optional)

Source of my authority on this matter: Lived in Texas since I was like 10 or smth

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago

In most places, hats and coats are considered outerwear. You suggest someone wear a hat, and they'll wear it everywhere.

I suggested ditching the hat (and coat) because people who dress for a theme, like OP, often let the theme override indoor/outdoor considerations.

Maybe in Texas they wear the hats indoors. But in most places, you go inside, you take your hat off immediately (and hang it up until you go back out).

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

As a 32x34 I’m stoked they have pants in my size ….

Lean into it. And if all someone sees is something that happened years ago, fuck'em. They don't know you.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 4 months ago

Best thing to do is to own it, accept it and laugh with them at how cringe it was.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Eh, kids will be kids. I remember when I was in the 6th grade there was a kid named Steven who only ever wore camo to school. Of course we all made fun of him. 😔 kids (and their adult versions) can be mean. I hope Steven turned out fine.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Wat. In my 6th grade if someone had worn camo all the time they would've been king of the class.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

In my 6th grade, wearing camo was so common it was utterly unremarkable. Only time someone got joked with was when a kid named Hunter wore a camo jacket with camo pants outside of deer season.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Aww man, you’re making me wish my name was hunter. It could have been my whole thing.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 months ago

Fake.

No one remembers Anon years later.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago

When I was in highschooli n the late 2000s, country bars were all the rage so you would've fit right in

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Probably should've hired on at a ranch and just kept going.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago

Just didn't own it. Anyone with confidence could have made it work just fine.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago

I got a cowboy hat once until my partner pointed out that men who wear cowboy hats always end up on the TV news with neighbours describing them as a “quiet man who kept himself to himself”, despite which “nobody saw this coming”.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Howdy partner!
