He's not calling for court expansion. He's probably only going to call for term limits. It's not that significant and he's said it before. It's just another half measure.

no more half measures walter

no more ~~half measures~~ lifetime appointments walter

Yep, term limits, “enforceable” code of ethics and limited immunity for presidents. The latter would require a constitutional amendment so good luck with that.

The only measure I'll accept will be if Biden drone strikes them.

waltuh No more half measures.

if they were serious, there would be no announcement. they would just do it. pre-announcements are literally the way advisors take the temp on an issue, as read by pollsters. phone calls and arm twists would all already be happening to make sure everything sails through, and if there was a holdout that didn't respond to private inducements on something deemed "popular", there would be a leak in that individual's constituency, or more likely overtures to their political machine to get them to twist the arm. federal money for whatever 4 car dealership owners run that guy's district would have the representative clapping at the signing.

instead they do this and then try to divine if this gesture will shore up the Harris nom or they should back away from it and try something else if support still seems soft.

if they actually do anything beyond pageantry, even something as simple as getting Clarence Thomas the fuck off the court for being the most obvious ethically compromised shithead, it would literally blow my mind. the high court being a completely compromised institution with no hope for reform is probably the most essential characteristic of american government, which is why it has been a key feature in the strategic plans of reactionary elements to dismantle basic, humanitarian reforms for most of its existence.

John Roberts when Joe Brandon announces a letter to establish intent to recommend a committee to investigate the potential to form a commission to conduct a fact-finding mission to draft a resolution to ask the Supreme Court to be nice

liberals "biden did the most radical supreme court reform of all time" crush

A story in four acts:

~ACT I~

biden-rember "Congress, I bring you these Supreme Court reforms. Prithee pass them for me."

~ACT II~

liberalism "Sorry, no can do, got a busy schedule of nothing"

~ACT III~

biden-pain "Oh noes Congress, how could you hurt me by not doing the thing like that?"

~ACT IV~

biden-troll "Well, so long as I did my best, I'm happy."

Don't forget the act 2 soliloquy where the parliamentarian explains how because of incorrect use of bullet points the legislation must be discarded

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

~INTERLUDE~

spaghett "I, the Senate Pastafarian, find incorrect use of bullet points in the legislation uncouth. By the Rule of the Ancients, I must declare this bill dead!"

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

When Spaghett was offered the post of parliamentarian: free-real-estate

This is timed literally to give Republicans more judges. They can expand the court headcount but they can't get through candidate hearings and appointment approvals before the election, and the Dems don't have enough votes to prevail anyway, so this seems like a handout to Republicans.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 month ago

That’s probably the Dems strategy anyways. Expand headcount, be able to do nothing abiut actually placing judges actually get fucking rocked to a 14-3 conservative supreme court majority.

And then 2028 will be the election of a lifetime, the a victory will secure the Dems the sc, for sure this timr

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 month ago

it's already stacked by republicans. they should've expanded it years ago.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Your reforms have to get past the supreme court... I can't even anymore...

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Lolol Dems can’t even be ambitious in their posturing smh

‘We’ll appoint 150 million SC judges’

‘We’ll cancel literally all debt. Credit card, student loans, Klarna, that fucking 10 bag you owe your buddy dgaf’

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Could a stern finger-wagging be in the works? What about muh separation of corporate owned powers?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

It’s going be spicier than a potato salad

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago

I hate general election year

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago

If they carry through with these suggestions it means they actually do genuinely believe there's a real threat happening. I'll believe it when I see it but it's the first sign of them actually wanting to do something to prevent the incoming gov from turning america into christian isis land.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago

Watch this get overturned by the Supreme Court.

I fucking hate how libs have colonised the word "unprecedented" and just use it to mean "big important" when all the "unprecedented" things the libs do are just the same shit they've always done, they're just whining louder about how important it is to vote for them.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

It's an important part of their arsenal of amnesia incantations

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

I'm not even gonna lie, when I read about this there was a tiny brainworm in my head trying to get me to think everything was gonna be okay. The liberal fearmongering on social media and the news is really starting to get to me. I won't betray my principles, but I'm kinda shitting my pants rn.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

unprecedented?

Is he going to use that power they gave him for something really funny?
