I'm only pointing this out because your comment may read like "don't bother reading Marx to understand these phenomena" for some

I think it's toxic for people to interpret comments as if they have malice, when nowhere in my comment says "don't read Marx". It is rude for anyone on hexbear to assume that a fellow hexbear user would be saying "don't read Marx". Are we on reddit? I thought we were better than that.

My comment only says that during Marx's time, the concept of intellectual property was a very different and simpler thing. Also the communist manifesto is one of Marx's simpler works. Many Marxists even tell people not to bother with reading that specific book because it's not all the interesting. Yes, Marxist concepts apply to modern intellectually property but the way that Marx wrote about intellectual property is very different than concepts that are important to AI.

I would compare AI to the industrial revolution. Marx talks about how new machines during the industrial revolution, new machines allowed workers to produce more commodities with less time needed. New technology allows capitalists to exploit workers more. That doesn't make the technology necessarily bad, it is just used in a bad way. Generative AI is comparable to a factory machine.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 8 hours ago

The communist manifesto was published in 1848. Our modern understanding of Intellectual Property didn't really start until the Berne Convention of 1886, 3 years after Marx's death. Also the concept of intellectual property changed many times since then. Music was not even copyrightable until 1906. Copyrighted software did not exist until 1976. Pre-1976 software is considered public domain. During Marx's life time, he did not experience the modern concept of Intellectual Property, it was not a thing yet.

You're asking the wrong question. VPNs are cool and all, it won't really protect your communication, especially not from a government actor. A VPN can sort of trick a website into thinking you are at a different location and in some ways can mask what you are doing from your ISP. It won't protect you from the government.

What you want is GPG encryption of your communications. GPG can be used in 2 main ways, you can encrypt files/text or you can sign files/text. Each person has a private key and a public key. In the case where you encrypt a message, you would take the public key of the person that you want to receive the message to encrypt the message and then the encrypted message can only be decrypted by the recipients private key. In the case where you sign a message, you use your private key to generate a "signature" string and then other people can take your public key and the signature to confirm that you wrote the message that you signed.

You can set this up with an email client like Thunderbird (equivalent to firefox).

The tattoo on the left in the photo is Dwight Schrute from the tv show, The Office. His character is the assistant to the manager at a paper company. He lives on a farm in Pennsylvania. He's a huge nerd and everyone constantly clowns on him. He's always begging to be promoted. He acts like he has more power at the company than he really does. He's supposed to be like a parody of right wing libertarians but some people don't realize that.

Dwight is a right wing libertarian character. He hates the government and regulations, specifically he has said that the government is too strict about limiting the use of pesticides. He loves corporations and is always kissing his bosses' ass to try to climb the corporate ladder. He's quoted Mussolini. Dwight is the same type of guy as Dr Disrespect.

Tianlong-3, a two-stage kerosene-liquid oxygen rocket comparable to SpaceX's Falcon 9, experienced the failure during a test of its nine engines intended to power the first stage.

At 3:43 pm, the engines were fired according to plan, and the engine thrust reached 820 tons. However, a structural failure caused the rocket to detach from its launch pad and blast off.

All villagers in the area, which is remote and far from the city center, had been evacuated before the test.

DPRK says US-Japan-ROK alliance is the Asian version of NATO. US, Japan, and ROK conducted joint military exercise called Freedom Edge in waters near DPRK from June 27 to June 29.

"As NATO stages annual joint military drills in all spheres including land, sea, air and cyberspace, the U.S., Japan and the ROK decided to regularly stage tripartite multi-domain joint military drills. This means that the U.S.-Japan-ROK relations have taken on the full-fledged appearance of Asian-version NATO."

External Policy Office of DPRK Foreign Ministry Issues Press Statement

Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- The external policy office of the DPRK Foreign Ministry released the following press statement under the title "We will continue to make important efforts to deter the acts of disturbing peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and the rest of the world" on Sunday:

The U.S., Japan and ROK staged Freedom Edge, the first tripartite multi-domain joint military exercises in the waters near the DPRK from June 27 to 29.

In the past they staged many large and small joint military drills under various pretexts, but there had been no such a large-scale joint military drill dubbed with a special name.

We strongly denounce the U.S., Japan and ROK for their repeated reckless and provocative military muscle-flexing against the DPRK and other independent states in the region and once again seriously warn of the fatal consequences to be entailed by them.

Now the international community unanimously comments that lurking behind the recent drill is the strategic design of the U.S. to escalate regional military tensions, exert pressure upon the Far East of Russia and lay siege to China.

The regular U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite joint military exercises clearly show that the U.S. strategy for world domination to encircle and contain independent and sovereign states and secure its military hegemony has already crossed the red-line and is bringing about a very negative change in the world security environment and geopolitical mechanical structure.

Freedom Edge, typical expression of the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite military bloc

The danger of the first tripartite multi-domain joint military exercises between the U.S., Japan and the ROK lies not only in the fact that the armed forces of the three countries conducted drills in various operational spheres including the sea and air.

The gravity and danger of the situation lie in the fact that Freedom Edge is a product of the organization, systematization and actualization of the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite military bloc.

The U.S. is now claiming that the U.S.-Japan-ROK relations are just cooperative ones for strengthening regional stability and security and do not mean NATO of Asian version, but it is nothing but rhetoric to evade international criticism of the formation of an aggressive bloc.

The document, cooked up at the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite summit in August last year, specifies the immediate tripartite cooperation to cope with any threat faced by one of the three countries.

This is, in essence, reminiscent of NATO's principle of collective defense that it mobilizes its defense capabilities if a member country is attacked, regarding it as an attack on all.

Since the Camp David confab, the U.S., Japan and the ROK have operated a real-time missile warning data sharing system under the pretext of coping with "missile threat" from someone to realize the integration in the field of military intelligence. They are also stepping up the integration of the military forces of the three countries by frequently staging joint military drills involving U.S. strategic assets.

As NATO stages annual joint military drills in all spheres including land, sea, air and cyberspace, the U.S., Japan and the ROK decided to regularly stage tripartite multi-domain joint military drills. This means that the U.S.-Japan-ROK relations have taken on the full-fledged appearance of Asian-version NATO.

In the final analysis, Freedom Edge served as an occasion for proving that the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite military bloc, the U.S. had been seeking to establish for decades, has become a present perfect form, not a continuous or future one.

True intention in revitalization of exclusive military bloc

An official concerned of the U.S. Department of State recently asserted that Japan and the ROK are very good partners in coping with the threat from Russia.

Lurking behind this is the U.S. strategic scenario to use the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite military bloc as a three-horse carriage for carrying out its strategy for hegemony in not only Northeast Asia but also the rest of the world.

As already known, the ROK is a "military colony" which left OPECON (wartime operation control) in the hands of the U.S. and Japan is the largest overseas military base of the U.S, where more than 54 000 U.S. troops are deployed.

This hints that the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite military bloc is a war and aggression mechanism capable of standing in military confrontation against other countries at any time under the instruction and command of the U.S., unlike AUKUS, the security technology alliance of the U.S., Britain and Australia or the tripartite security cooperation between the U.S., Japan and the Philippines.

It is by no means fortuitous that the U.S. persistently tried to make the relations between NATO, the war machinery in Europe, and Japan and the ROK closely linked with each other.

The U.S., which had already pushed forward with the entry of Japan and the ROK into NATO 18 years ago, has got more frantic in realizing the organic bond between NATO and Japan and the ROK since it turned its strategic focus to the Asia-Pacific region.

Japan and the ROK, which established partnerships with NATO and built channels of regular dialogue at the instigation of the U.S., are now taking part in the annual NATO summit and even in the NATO-led military exercises, further expanding their cooperation with NATO.

After the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, Japan has been hell-bent on the moves to put pressure on Russia and the ROK has openly sought to provide the Nazi regime of Zelenskiy with lethal equipment. Such facts show that the close ties between NATO and the U.S.-Japan-ROK tripartite military bloc have reached a dangerous level.

The reality goes to prove that the "inseparable relations" between the security of Europe and the one of the Asia-Pacific region, touted by the U.S. and its vassal forces, are nothing but an excuse for realizing the political collusion and military integration between the NATO member states and pro-U.S. states in the Asia-Pacific region and encircling independent sovereign states.

To foil the alliance strategy of the U.S. is urgently needed to ensure international peace and stability

The Biden administration, in its "Indo-Pacific Strategy Report" and the "National Security Strategy Report", called on its allies in Asia and Europe to unite with each other to counter their strategic rivals.

Recently, it has asserted that its alliance strategy is making the switch from a "hub-and-spoke one" of forming various bilateral alliances to a "lattice-like one" of forming several multi-lateral alliances cooperating with each other. It also claimed that the era of "alliance protection" is over and the era of "alliance action" has arrived.

This proves that the primary goal of the U.S. strategy for world domination is to form a global siege network to contain independent sovereign states which are opposed to its high-handed and arbitrary practices.

Such confrontational attempt of the U.S. is the root cause of fomenting political instability and military confrontation and triggering off bloody wars and touch-and-go security crises in different parts of the world.

The prevailing situation requires the independent sovereign states to steadily bolster up their self-defensive power to defend the security of the state and, at the same time, further strengthen mutual cooperation and concerted action so as to establish a structure of forces capable of effectively deterring the hostile forces' collective military intervention.

The U.S. and its vassal forces' expansion of the aggressive bloc and escalating military confrontation that wreck peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the region will be surely deterred by the powerful and coordinated counteraction of independent sovereign states.

The DPRK will never overlook the moves of the U.S. and its followers to strengthen the military bloc, which openly destroys the security environment on the Korean peninsula and gravely threatens global peace and stability, but firmly defend the sovereignty, security and interests of the state and peace in the region through offensive and overwhelming countermeasures. -0-

Then, in the aftermath of October 7th, he decided to deny the pretty credible evidence of Hamas’s mass r*pe.

4 . He is clueless when it comes to his public image, denying credible evidence of mass r*pe, pulling a fire alarm to stop a funding bill he didn’t like, and being very Hamas-friendly in a predominantly Jewish district.

“There’s still no evidence of beheaded babies or r*ped women. But they still keep using that lie [for] propaganda.” This is the exact quote that Bowman said in November. The quote doubt claims made by the Israel government, which has been known to frequently lie.

So the article says Jamaal Bowman lost because he pulled a fire alarm, doubted claims made by the Israeli government, and has sympathies for Hamas (which is currently the main liberation force for Palestinians)? So he lost because he was too fucking cool? Does he also ride a skateboard? Can he also do a kick flip?

Pulling a fire alarm is honestly one of the coolest things that anyone can do. Anyone who thinks pulling a fire alarm is not cool is a nerd who should not be trusted. I'm not saying you should pull a fire alarm. Just for one second, imagine the coolest guy in a 80s college movie. He's wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket, he's smoking a cigarette in one hand while pulling the fire alarm with the other hand so that his friends get out of class early.

Roe V Wade was overturned before the midterm. This jackass had more than half of his Presidential term to do anything about Roe V Wade. He was the vice president for Obama for 8 years and Obama promised to codify Roe V Wade into law in 2008. The reality is that he doesn't support Roe V Wade or abortion access. He's just lying.

Then, reiterating his position on Roe, he said, “I’ve never been supportive of, you know, ‘It’s my body, I can do what I want with it.’ But I have been supportive of the notion that this is probably the most rational allocation of responsibility that all the major religions have signed on and debated over the last thousand years.”

Also during Trump's presidency he did many things which hurt Palestinians and helped Israel, such as the Abraham Accords and moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He also cut funding to Palestinian aid groups, stopped funding to UNRWA. There's also speculation that his assassination of Qassem Soleimani was on behalf of Israel.

Despite his bold talk, however, Fain has not yet made an organized attempt to spread the idea.

This is an absolute lie. Shawn Fain promised a general strike after the UAW negotiated their 5 year contract in 2023. The UAW did not have to promise this at all. The UAW also shortened their contract so that they could strike on May 1, 2028. The UAW also said that it was their goal to have unionized 2 or 3 additional car manufacturers by 2028. The UAW is typically known for having unionized the "Big Three" car companies, which is GM, Ford, and Stellantis (fka Fiat-Chrysler). However in April 2024, the UAW unionized the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga TN. That is evidence that UAW is in fact trying to do their plan. The UAW is also in the process of trying to organize other non-union plants in the US such as Toyota.

Besides that, the article has a naive understanding of the purpose of general strike. The article should ask "Why strike before 2028?". The purpose of a strike is a bargaining tool. The union already got the best contract that they've had in decades, why would they strike before the contract expires? That makes no sense unless you have the brain of a redditor. A strike is supposed to be a threat. Nobody wants to actually go on strike to have their demands met. Firstly it costs a lot money to go on strike, which is why unions need to save up strike funds prior to the strike. Secondly, everyone hopes that the capitalist concede to the demands of the union before a strike happens. The ideal scenario is that the capitalists concede and then the workers don't have to strike.

The strike is planned for 2028 because that is when the contract ends. The UAW offered to strike with other unions in 2028 so that all unions involved in the general strike would have greater collective bargaining power. Let's say hypothetically the Teamsters agree to the proposed general strike arrangement with the UAW. What would that mean? That would mean that the UAW and Teamsters negotiate contracts at the same time, with the threat that if the companies don't concede to their demands, then both unions would go on strike. The hope is that this greater pressure will make the companies more likely to concede so that a strike won't actually happen, but the worker's demands will be met.

Stupid article. The article is written by Trotskyists, as you might expect. The website is owned by "Revolutionary Communist Party of America" (RCA), which on their website says they support "genuine Marxism, represented by Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Trotsky." This leads me to believe that they don't support Stalin, Mao, and so on.

White Paper Released by Institute for American Studies of DPRK Foreign Ministry

Pyongyang, June 25 (KCNA) -- More than 70 years have passed since the ceasefire of the Korean War.

Now is hard to find in this land such traces of shuddering massacres and destruction committed by the U.S. imperialists in the war.

The Institute for American Studies of the DPRK Foreign Ministry released a white paper on Tuesday to disclose the historical facts on the atrocities committed by the U.S. against the DPRK, which were utterly heinous in terms of scale, persistence and viciousness, and clarify the DPRK people's unshakable will to inflict a retaliatory punishment on the U.S. imperialist aggressors, their sworn enemies.

The white paper refers to the hideous crimes the U.S. committed by inflicting on the DPRK huge human losses unprecedented in the human history.

The most serious damage is that the U.S. brutally killed many peaceful civilians.

According to official data alone, the number of victims to the U.S. massacres in the DPRK is 5 060 770 in total, including 1 247 870 deaths, 911 790 abductees and 391 740 missing persons.

According to their calculated damages based on the international practice, in case of the consideration of period when the victims could work, if they survived, and their income and the interest in the period when they did not get compensated, the damages of those persons killed, abducted and missing are estimated to be more than 16 533.396 billion U.S. dollars and the damages of the wounded and disabled are 9 635.427 billion U.S. dollars, totaling to 26 168.823 billion U.S. dollars.

The U.S. can never evade the duty of fulfilling its responsibility as a war criminal state, before the DPRK government and people, for its hideous crimes that can not be pardoned in view of international law or human morality.

The white paper discloses that the U.S. inflicted on the DPRK disastrous material and economic damage that can never be compared with the aftermath of the World War.

The property damage, brought to the DPRK by the U.S. during the war, is estimated at more than 16 661.622 billion U.S. dollars.

Even after the war, the U.S. had systematically infiltrated terrorists and saboteurs into the DPRK's territory to destroy peaceful facilities, thus causing the property damage amounting to 21 266 million U.S. dollars.

According to rudimentary estimation, the economic damage the DPRK people had suffered for 70-odd years from 1945 to 2017 due to the U.S. sanctions and blockade amounts to more than 29.354 trillion U.S. dollars and the amount is increasing tremendously with each passing day.

Such heinous crime, that has brought untold material and economic damage to the DPRK, is tantamount to another mass destruction and massacre aimed to encroach upon and stamp out the sovereignty and rights to existence and development of the DPRK.

The white paper notes that the U.S. has added to its crimes by leaving indelible wounds on the Korean people through its outrageous nuclear threat and blackmail and doing serious harm to the security environment of the DPRK.

The U.S. declared that it would use A-bombs in the Korean War five years after it dropped them in Japan to kill hundreds of thousands of its innocent people.

It spawned a nuclear issue in the Korean peninsula and has gradually escalated its nuclear threat and blackmail against the DPRK to drive the security environment of the peninsula to tension.

In anti-DPRK joint military exercises of various forms and missions, staged for the past seven decades, from Focus Lens in 1954 to Ulji Freedom Shield at present, the U.S. has steadily acquired the capability to conduct a DPRK-targeted nuclear war. This year, it is staging frantic drills for preemptive strike at the DPRK's nuclear facilities and major military bases, under the new "operational plan 2022", revealing its scheme for a nuclear war against the DPRK under the eyes of the world.

Nothing can compensate the mental damage suffered by the Korean people due to the U.S. ever-escalating nuclear threat.

The Korean people are strictly keeping tabs on all the criminal acts made by the U.S. against the DPRK that have lasted for decades, and looking forward to the moment when the U.S. will be made to pay dearly for all its crimes, the white paper says, stating:

"Blood for blood!" -- this is the DPRK's norm related to irreconcilable compensation for the losses and its unshakable will to make a retaliatory punishment. -0-

Mass Rally Held in Pyongyang of DPRK

Pyongyang, June 26 (KCNA) -- A Pyongyang mass rally took place at the May Day Stadium on June 25, the day of struggle against U.S. imperialism.

Attending the mass rally were more than 100 000 people, including officials and workers of working people's organizations, ministries, national agencies, institutions and industrial establishments and youth and students in Pyongyang.

On hand were members of the diplomatic corps and military attaches corps in the DPRK and overseas Koreans who are staying here.

The stadium was full of the spirit of avengers to annihilate the enemy who massacred the Korean people. The participants in the rally watched a video disclosing the thrice-cursed crimes committed by the U.S. imperialist aggressors and the ROK puppets during the Fatherland Liberation War, and the enemy's ever-escalating moves to stifle the DPRK.

The speakers, in reflection of the retaliatory spirit of all the people, expressed their will to annihilate the U.S. imperialists and the ROK puppets, the unchangeable arch enemy, at any cost, bitterly denouncing the inhumane crimes committed by the sworn enemy.

They said that the frantic moves of the U.S. imperialists and the ROK puppets to ignite a nuclear war, oblivious of the shameful historical lesson, in which they suffered the bitter defeat by the DPRK people all out in the sacred war for defending the country more than 70 years ago, clearly shows the true colors of the aggressors and provocateurs that can never change despite the lapse of 700 or 7 000 years.

They said that they will always bear in mind the immutable truth that the might of the country and the people should be strong in order to defend their destiny and future, ceaselessly bolster up the strength of the country, the strongest war deterrent with the most just mission, and concentrate on preparing for the all-people resistance, thus clearly showing those disturbing the cause of the DPRK what miserable and bitter end they will meet.

Saying that hitting the 12 major targets for national economy development just means dealing a sledgehammer blow to the enemy, the speakers expressed their will to make innovations and increase production at their worksites and achieve greater patriotic successes, thus fully demonstrating the dignity and might of the country and emerge always victorious in the confrontation with the imperialists and the U.S.

Then followed a demonstration.

The demonstrators marched, hardening their unshakable outlook on the arch enemy and steadfast resistance will and chanting the slogans for annihilating the enemy with strong fighting spirit and self-confidence to win a great victory in the sacred war against the U.S. imperialists and the ROK puppets. -0-

He was also banned four years ago by Amazon Inc.’s Twitch for violating its community guidelines. The chat app Discord followed, removing him from its partnership program

The reasons for his banishment from Twitch were never given, but three people with knowledge of the matter said Beahm was removed because he exchanged sexually explicit messages with a minor through the service’s direct chat feature. He also asked a minor about her plans at the TwitchCon convention, according to two of the people, who asked not to be identified discussing such a sensitive matter.

Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by Dr Disrespect, has terminated its relationship with the streamer.

That is the day and time that former Twitch employee Cody Conners posted a tweet about the alleged reason for Beahm’s permanent ban, saying it was for “sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product.”

On Sunday, The Verge reported a second Twitch employee who worked on the platform’s trust and safety team at the time of the incident had come forward to corroborate Conner’s post.

In 2020, Beahm was banned from Twitch at the height of his popularity and shortly after signing a two-year exclusivity contract with the platform. Neither Twitch nor Beahm would state the reason why, leading to four years of mystery and speculation.

Historic Meeting to Be Specially Recorded in Great Heyday of DPRK-Russia Friendship

President of Russian Federation Arrives in Pyongyang to Pay State Visit to DPRK

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Warmly Receives President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin

Pyongyang, June 19 (KCNA) -- At a crucial time when the friendly relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation have emerged as a strong strategic fortress for preserving international justice, peace and security and an engine for accelerating the building of a new multi-polar world, another meeting of the top leaders of the two countries took place in Pyongyang, amply demonstrating once again the invincibility and durability of the DPRK-Russia friendship and unity.

Pyongyang International Airport was decked in a festive attire to warmly welcome as the highest state guest President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin of the Russian Federation who will pay a state visit to the DPRK at the invitation of Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK.

The national flags of the DPRK and the Russian Federation were fluttering at the top of flagstaffs.

Seen at the airport were Alexandr Matsegora, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, and his embassy members.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un came to the airport to greet Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

A private plane of the president of the Russian Federation landed on Pyongyang International Airport.

Kim Jong Un met with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin in an exciting atmosphere.

Kim Jong Un shook hands with Putin and embraced him warmly, expressing his joy and gladness to meet him again in Pyongyang 270-odd days after the meeting at the Vostochny Spaceport in September 2023.

Being pleased that his Pyongyang visit was realized, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin expressed deep thanks to Kim Jong Un for coming to the airport to greet him warmly.

Putin was presented with a bouquet by a woman worker.

Among his entourage were Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Mantrov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Nobak, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and concurrently President's Press Secretary Dmitri Peskov, Aide to the President of Russia for Foreign Policy Yuri Ushakov, Minister of Defense Andrei Beloussov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology and concurrently Chairman of the Russian Side of the Russia-DPRK Inter-Governmental Committee for Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science and Technology Alexandr Kozlov , Minister of Health Mikhail Murashuko and Minister of Transport Roman Starovoyt.

Kim Jong Un took Putin's private car to guide him to his lodging quarters.

Passing through charmingly lit streets of Pyongyang at night, the top leaders exchanged their pent-up inmost thoughts and opened their minds to more surely develop the DPRK-Russia relations in conformity with the common desire and will of the peoples of the two countries with the meeting as a momentum.

They arrived at the lodging quarters Kumsusan State Guest House.

Kim Jong Un personally guided Putin, having a friendly chat with him.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's visit to the DPRK at a remarkable time, when the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and Russia have surely entered a course of new comprehensive development, is of great importance in reliably promoting the strategic and future-oriented development of the DPRK-Russia relations consolidated in the trials of history generation after generation and century after century and powerfully propelling the cause of building a powerful country, a desire common to the peoples of the two countries. -0-

Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- V. Putin, president of the Russian Federation, released an article titled "Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea: Tradition of friendship and cooperation lasts decade after decade".

V. Putin in an article said that he would like to tell the readers of Rodong Sinmun in the DPRK and abroad about the prospect of the partnership between the two countries and its significance in the present world before paying a state visit to the DPRK.

The friendship and good neighborly relations between Russia and the DPRK based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and trust have passed 70 years and been recorded with the glorious historic tradition, the article said, and went on:

The people of the two countries preciously cherish the memory of the hard-fought common struggle against Japanese militarism and pay tribute to the heroes who fell victims.

The monument on Moran Hill erected in the center of Pyongyang in 1946 in commemoration of the liberation of Korea by the Red Army is a symbol of militant friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

The Soviet Union recognized the young DPRK for the first time in the world and established diplomatic relations with the DPRK.

The agreement on economic and cultural cooperation between the Soviet Union and the DPRK was concluded on March 17, 1949 when Comrade Kim Il Sung, founder of the DPRK, visited Moscow for the first time, and the agreement laid a legal foundation for boosting bilateral cooperation in the future.

Even in the difficult period of the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War, the Soviet Union rendered assistance to the DPRK people and supported them in their struggle for independence.

My visit to Pyongyang in 2000 and the visit to Russia next year by Comrade Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, served as a new and important milestone in the relations between the two countries.

The bilateral declarations issued at that time had defined the main stand and orientations of our creative and many-sided partnership in the future.

Comrade Kim Jong Un, the present leader of the DPRK, is confidently adhering to the line laid down by Comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, the preceding leaders, distinguished statesmen and friends of the Russian people.

I was convinced of this once again during our meeting at the Vostochny Spaceport of Russia in September last year.

As before, Russia and the DPRK are now actively developing the many-sided partnership.

We highly appreciate that the DPRK is firmly supporting the special military operations of Russia being conducted in Ukraine, expressing solidarity with us on major international issues and maintaining the common line and stand at the UN.

As our reliable comrade and supporter yesterday and today, Pyongyang is willing to resolutely oppose the ambition of the "Western group" to hinder the establishment of a multi-polarized world order based on mutual respect for justice and sovereignty and consideration of mutual interests.

In essence, the U.S. is making every desperate effort to impose on the world the so-called "order based on rules" which is nothing but a world-wide neocolonialist dictatorship based on the "double standards".

The U.S. and its followers are openly claiming that their aim is to deal "strategic defeat" to Russia.

They are doing everything they can do to delay and further aggravate the conflicts in Ukraine triggered by them by backing and fabricating the armed coup in Kiev in 2014 and the war in the Donbas area afterward.

Russia is ready to have an equal dialogue on all the most complicated issues in the past and in the future, too.

I mentioned this again at a recent meeting with Russian diplomats in Moscow.

Meanwhile, our enemies are conversely continue to supply neo-Nazi Kiev authorities with money, weapons and reconnaissance data, allowing modern weapons and technical equipment offered by the West to be used for attacking the Russian territory and, in fact, encouraging them.

But although they make desperate efforts, all their attempts to repress and isolate Russia have been frustrated.

We are pleased that the friends of the DPRK are defending their interests very effectively despite the U.S. economic pressure, provocation, blackmail and military threats that have lasted for decades.

We are seeing the DPRK people fight to defend their freedom, sovereignty and national traditions with what strength, dignity and courage.

Russia has supported the DPRK and its heroic people in the struggle to defend their rights to choose the road of independence, originality and development by themselves in the confrontation with the cunning, dangerous and aggressive enemy yesterday and tomorrow, too, and will invariably support them in the future, too.

We are firmly convinced that we will put bilateral cooperation onto a higher level with our joint efforts and this will contribute to developing reciprocal and equal cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, strengthening our sovereignty, deepening economic and trade relations, developing the ties in the field of humanitarianism and, consequently, improving the well-being of the citizens of the two states.

The article wished Comrade Kim Jong Un good health and all the friendly DPRK people great success on the road of peace and development. -0-

“Faced with the marvels of machines, which seem to know how to choose independently, we should be very clear that decision-making, even when we are confronted with its sometimes dramatic and urgent aspects, must always be left to the human person,” Francis said.

“We would condemn humanity to a future without hope if we took away people’s ability to make decisions about themselves and their lives, by dooming them to depend on the choices of machines,” he continued.

“We need to ensure and safeguard a space for proper human control over the choices made by artificial intelligence programs: human dignity itself depends on it,” the pontiff added.

He specifically urged the G7 leaders to ban the use of lethal autonomous weapons, arguing that “no machine should ever choose to take the life of a human being.”

“In order for them to be instruments for building up the good and a better tomorrow, they must always be aimed at the good of every human being,” he said.

“It is up to everyone to make good use of [AI], but the onus is on politics to create the conditions for such good use to be possible and fruitful,” Francis said.
