They cut cylinders, rolled them downhill with rope and levers, stood them up using another one as a fulcrum for the lever, and carved them in place. This was genius then. Today it's high school physics. It should be obvious to us how they did it.

Today it's high school physics.

I don't see what this has to do with getting Jenny pregnant behind the gym, but okay...

You let the smokers watch?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, that was behind the "portables" buildings.

Be it behind the gym or the portables, fucking with an audience while in high school is quite a bold move.

That's when we're most discrete, is when we're used to hiding it while living under the parents' roof!

The current leading theory is that they "walked" them.

Here's a video showing how "walking" a statue is done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpNuh-J5IgE Also, relevant part of the Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moai#Transportation

That seems simpler than what I said. And, the simplest answer is usually the correct one.

Unlikely given the half cut ones left in quarries.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, another pointed out that I'm probably wrong. There's an even simpler "walking" method. In my defense, they don't teach that one in physics or engineering.

Not even close, dude! It was aliens.

Gotta love how humans always look back on old historical monuments/structures from before we had machines and are arrogant enough to assume ancient people were too dumb to figure out things like moving rocks that were too heavy to carry by hand.

ancient europe: "what a marvel of engineering!"

ancient anywhere else: "aliens did it"

My favorite podcast has an episode on Rapa Nui/Easter Island.

It's probably the best 2hours of podcast I've ever listened too. It is very sad, and very beautiful.

Their 2 armed and legged brethren left them there before walking away.
