I am sick to my stomach over this today. I truly thought that Harris would pull it out of the bag.

Can hardly wait for our next election. /s

I'm from Vancouver, but live in Scotland. So got to listen to the play by playing collapse of rational thought in real time. By the time my shift started I was having a full blown panic attack....

I bit my cheek during breakfast this morning, really hard, to the point where I got a bloody mouth. It didn't hurt that much; thanks adrenaline!

Assuming there even is one - remember that the President elect has stated he'd want to run again a third time.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

No, he said people need to vote for him just this last time and then he'll fix the voting itself.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Yep, but this reminds me of the "They're the same picture" meme: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/theyre-the-same-picture

and then he'll fix the voting itself.

As in "the fix is in"?

What a terrible day for Canada, and therefore of course, the world.

Truly, this is the worst timeline

It looks like Trump personally hates Trudeau, he's lucky, in a couple of months we will have Poilievre the mini-trump as Canada PM...

We, will not be so lucky...

Can we both just hitch a ride with Mexico? At least they got their first female president, plus she's a scientist.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm guessing the Trump insanity will put a damper on Poilievre's campaigning a bit, seeing as they're easy to tie together, but Trudeau is such a dead weight it might not matter.

The Cons could run anyone. It doesn't matter. "Not Trudeau" will win the next election.

Loads of LGBTQ2S+ folk in the States are hoping that Canada might be a safe haven until the American army jackboots their way north. My trans sister and her American wife included. I'm very concerned that if little PP gets in that might not be the case. My sister would be able to get in as we're Canadian, but her wife might not be able to.
This is definitely the worst timeline.

Also, even if they can get into Canada, where will they live? Canada's real estate market started getting hot before the US market did. This sucks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Good point.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

At least if PP wins a minority that should limit the damage he can do, since the conservatives have a long tradition of not playing well with other parties.

Even though it's probably the best thing to do in terms of international relations, it feels very weird having Trudeau congratulate Trump.

"We look forward to working with president-elect Trump and his administration, including on issues such as trade, investment, and continental peace and security," - Justin Trudeau

It was a novel written in the 1970s about the US invading Canada to get our oil supplies. It was called Exxoneration.

If I remember it correctly, the Canadians were able to successfully resist over the long term.
