I'm still playing Resident Evil 2. Now I'm doing the Claire playthrough, I'm a Jill man myself but I'm beginning to see the appeal. Anyway, I'm nervous as hell because the game keeps giving me all this ammo and all these crazy weapons and that means they expect me to use it.

Yeah, it's heart-pounding

Haven't been able to play much this past month due to some personal issues, but I started up NGU Idle and It's been a blast.

Favorite genres have to be city-builders/sims, and strategic or turn-based combat games.

Didn't watch TGA since it's super bloated, but I did see and enjoy the BG3 director's comments about the industry.

The thing I enjoyed most this year is personal, but I started playing a lot more of the silly co-op games with friends and it's a great way to spend time with them when they don't live close.

I like idle games. might try this one

I just finished my first (and likely only) playthrough of Horizon Forbidden West+DLC Burning Shores (I loved the previous game Horizon Zero Dawn).

I wasn't prepared to get slapped in the face with sinophobia (the writing re: the Quen) but yeah it really soured my experience. I know it's not like super overt but I understood the angle where it was coming from and what the writing was trying to communicate to its audience. Maybe I'll find it funny in a few weeks (as many sinophobic tropes/accusations are more reflective of the west than they are of china;; "moral lessons" about finding the truth for yourself is much more applicable to westerners "forced" to reiterate antichina-isms than it is applicable to whatever the average westerner thinks about censorship and free speech in china) but right now I'm just unhappy.

At least I didn't spend money on it this time around🏴‍☠️

Yeah, absolutely.

Honestly, that's disappointing.

Finished Berwick Saga recently. Definitely one of the best and most unique turn-based strategy games I've ever played. Will probably take forever to play it again because the level of long-term strategy is draining at some points, but I absolutely loved it.

Not sure if I am just too busy or if it's an industry thing, but I honestly didn't get excited for anything out of TGA. Don't even know much about the nominated games. None of them run on my PC either way.

Depending on my level of energy I might play Möbius Front or Xenonauts 1, or just sit back and enjoy some random couch co-op games with my holiday visitor.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I could use some random couch co-op like Fallout 76 with my found fam

I've been playing a lot of Baldi's Basics Plus (0.8 update) recently. Probably going to play either more FreedroidRPG or Songs of Syx next. My favorite genres are still the same: Any type of RPG (turn-based, action, ...) and RTS games, particularly more complex city builders.

I've watched TGA but there is nothing really in particular that stands out to me. Maybe Witcher 4? But I want to see some gameplay first. In terms of 2024 games I really enjoyed Portal: Revolution.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow, FreedroidRPG looks interesting. Can you elaborate more on it?

I haven't played too much of the main quest yet but it's a top-down isometric ARPG like Fallout or Diablo. Basically you play as Tux the penguin (the Linux mascot) on a quest to fight rogue robots who'll attack anyone on sight. It's licensed under the GPLv2 so it's libre open source software. Most Linux distros and BSDs feature it in their native package repositories but it's also on Steam as of last year.

Gotcha, gotcha

I know it’s milsim but I’ve been playing more squad recently. Sometimes it feels good playing a resistance group fighting Americans and winning. I’ve also been playing a lot of call of duty black ops 6, it’s so fun. Haven’t had this much fun since I think MW2 from 2010(?) i for got when it came out, but it’s a blast. I also found a really interesting game called catacalismo, it’s like tower defense, Minecraft, base building, and something else combined. I really enjoy it, for my perfectionist brain making things look nice is just really fun and my diagnosed OCD enjoys the thought of optimizing supply routes through building things. I’ve played a lot of Baldur’s gate 3 this year but I only like to play it with my wife, so i haven’t touched it recently. Dragon age veilguard is also pretty fun but I can tell they just really wanted to finish this game, they put a lot of heart into it, but there’s some choices made that I feel are amateurish. Space marine 2 was fun for a little bit, since I upgraded my PC I decided to finally play a game I’ve always wanted to but never had the hardware for: world in conflict Soviet assault.

My absolute favorite is RPG but only if it allows for detailed facial and body customization, plus background information, and basically DND. Second favorite would be Mil-Sim. I don’t know why, but I think I like the teamwork involved, which is weird because I have always preferred to work alone in all my academic work. I also like guns so playing tacticool Barbie is always fun.

I liked Witcher 4, Okami 2, and fragpunk, the entire thing was more awkward than usual this year. I had to be totally stoned to be able to finish the rest.

I absolutely 100% enjoyed COD BLOPS6 the most, I’ve pulled off some crazy shit that I still think about. Also every time I get play of the game and number 1 on the podium I can shout pro Palestine stuff and they can’t talk shit cause I played way better than them. The game that I’ve put most hours in though is destiny 2, we’re talking thousands of hours, but I think I’ve finally broken up with it (unless frontiers turns out to be amazing). I get the thought to play Destiny 2 and then I remember that I have to do XYZ which is gonna take forfuckingever and feel exhausted without even playing it. I got a baby that’s about to turn one years old, I don’t have time to spend tens of hours to grind for one gun that I’m gonna use once a year. Being back SRL and I’ll play it everyday again, but right now it’s just in a bad place, I especially cannot stand that the transmog system is so damn monetized. You get five free transmog tokens that you can grind out per season per character to be able to unlock the armor you already paid for transmog. DIablo 4 being activation doesn’t monetize transmog, that’s how greedy bungie has become

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Many people thought it was better this year, but I understand the awkwardness. And yeah, speak truth to power in BLOPS 6 of all games. And yeah, the problem with Diablo 4 is huge.

Also, Okami 2 looked gorgeous.

I play very few games these days.

Favorite genre is hands down RPG though I also have a soft spot for retro RTS games because the first video games I played were RTS (C&C).

I don't know anything about the situation (and haven't played the game) but I also must chime in and say I think Black Myth Wukong possibly got shafted at the recent awards on geopolitical basis. I think the west is at that phase where they are going to actively suppress Chinese culture and media in ways that involve pressure and behind the scenes stuff to prevent them from gaining official recognition and a platform.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, you like CRPGs (by what you mean as "retro RPGs," right?).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Well retro RTS I like. I haven't had much experience with retro RPGs, I admit my tastes have been more modern with that genre (though what does that mean anymore? 2000s? 2010s?)
