There have been quite a few comments and posts arguing about political memes and whether they belong here. I'm not exactly in any position of authority, but hopefully I can do something about this.

Which option do y'all think is best?

  1. People who want to post political memes do so in [email protected] instead.
  2. People who don't want to see political memes subscribe to [email protected] instead, which doesn't allow politics.
  3. Nothing changes.

I'm not asking for a rule to be made, I'm just asking for the general consensus. I'm hoping that this will help to raise awareness of those other communities, so that if people favor option 1, more political meme posters can move there, and if people favor option 2, more people who don't want politics can move there. And then I can also know whether to keep watching this community or move.

(Please don't downvote this post for complaining about political memes, because if it gets seen, it tells the complainers where they can go to avoid political memes, and then they'll be out of your hair.)

I like 3. I like both the political memes and the memes about people tired of political memes. Thanks for the community recommendations!

Me too! Makes the political memes even more fun! (I like watching the world burn, on many metaphorical levels at once)

Wow, that's based.

Dont care, I just dont get all these US memes, so kinda seperating by country would make sense.

But if we dont allow political memes it doesnt scare the neonazis anymore and I dont like that.

Edit: I love how this polemic post has no downvotes

Agreed. Neonazis kind of pervade global politics to an unfortunate degree, and it often feels like the sentiment against political memes only comes up when they’re getting called out. They can’t win popularity with meme wars since no one finds them humorous, so they’d rather the space be “sanitized” so no one wins.

Still, I can respect the annoyance of getting US political memes you don’t care about.

~~Option 1 and 2 are actually the same rule~~ didn't get the fact there was an instance change, ignore me.

Not really. Option 1 is the political memes moving, option 2 is the complainers moving.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Sorry, missed the fact that there was an instance change in option 2

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, it's not. memes is the community we are currently in. Subscribing to memes is not "moving".

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

We're on [email protected]. Option 2 is the complainers moving to [email protected]. Same name, different instances, different rules.

Option 2, probably with some option 3 in there too.

How about 1 and 2, and get rid of this one? It'll force all to move and hopefully provide more interaction to their respective preference.

Chaotic, I know, but I for one try my best to avoid political arguments and topics. I bet some of you now enjoy how much it bothers me, an internet stranger not wanting a reminder of how much governments suck everywhere, but still wants to view memes here.
