There is a tangled web of infuriating comments below. Some are calling this descendent of anti-Castro refugees a "Gigachad" for denying genocide. Others are quibbling over the definitions of "genocide," vs "ethnic cleansing," vs. "mass displacement."

It was a genocide before this.

"It's not genocide it's just a little ethnic cleansing" is certainly... something.

I genuinely think spending a lot of energy arguing about whether it's genocide or just mass murder isn't a really meaningful place to push. It's sort of a Rorschach test, and forces a wedge between people who might otherwise agree and what we need is to work together to end a) the bombing and invasion of Gaza and b) Zionism.

Honestly I don't think it's really knowable at this stage whether the aim of this particular military operation truly is genocide or to give Palestinians a "haircut", to kill a sufficient number of them as punishment. Obviously there are genocidal people in government but there are others who aren't, but what's salient (and objectively knowable) is that either way the response is satanically evil and not only needs to stop but the means of oppressing Palestinians in the first place needs to be removed forever.

I think any conflict where hospitals have to invent a new acronym - WCNSF (Wounded Child, No Surviving Family) - to describe hundreds of orphaned children deserves to be called a genocide. Just as much as the Armenian genocide or the genocide of various indigenous American peoples.

I honestly can’t imagine anyone who believes it’s not genocide while also being anti-zionism. The closest I can think of is like John Oliver type liberals who really don’t like seeing the IDF killing children but also think Palestinians violently resisting is a step too far
