I am looking for mods!

1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.

2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)

3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.

4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.

5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.

6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.

Lately, I've been having a hard time getting doing my hobbies because I've doom-scrolled to bad news, and devastating facts related to the Right (wingers), and a religious majority: Muslims.

I am not going to say EVERYTHING bad I have learned related to the majority of Muslim countries, but I'll say these two: Queers, and Apostates (of Islam), face very harsh stigma, and way-too-often get killed by Zealots. It has been like that for over 40 years.

I've also learned that the Right has gotten more power in some countries like Italy.

I have failed to find ANY positive information, and news about these topics, and because of that I am very worried that the world will become a Right-wing dystopia, and that the problems I have mentioned will never change for the better.

I'm trying to stay calm and hopeful about this, but I feel insecure about things getting better, and I keep stressing about it. I don't know how to help myself right now.

EDIT: forgot to mention that many people (online at least) are being pessimistic about it, which isn't helping me.

I do this, too! For the very same reason.

My solution: basically hedonism.

These right wing fools want to go to war and kill people over trivial bullshit like who people love and what books kids read. And no one with real political or social power is doing a damn thing about it. All thy environmental problems, including climate change, I suspect will only make it worse.

So fuck it. Live, laugh, and love now.

I suspect will only make it worse.

But you don't know that. History can't be (accurately) predicted.

So fuck it. Live, laugh, and love now.

Isn't that an internet meme? Perhaps it's better to say "enjoy your life now" or something like that.

Wow, thanks for making me feel better :/

Do you not have any Muslim friends?

Because you talk about muslims like they only exist in the form of hard-line state fundamentalists

OP may not be consciously aware of it, but that’s probably part of what made them think they needed to ask for help. Biased news sources have painted Muslims in a stereotypical way, and it looks like OP sensed that influence.

I think you're right now. And to be fair, I didn't read the news sources I have read, cause I was too stressed to read them fully. Unfortunately that led me to over-generalize.

Though, I'm now uncertain of how many "religious crazies" there really are.

If it makes you feel any better, significant percentages of young Muslims are leaving the faith, and I'd expect this trend to accelerate and continue. Worldwide people are moving away from religion and Islam is no exception. In fact I expect there are many more nonbelievers in the closet due to the harsh penalties for being an apostate, (traditionally leaving Islam carries the death penalty.) While Islam will continue to grow for a while because of high fertility rates and indoctrination I believe the writing is on the wall for all religions.
