What an ugly vehicle. It looks like a real life low-poly car from a 90s game...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

Reminds me of Minecraft

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago (5 children)

The only thing this will be good for is when they do a Back to The Future reboot in 10 years time...

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I would still prefer a Delorean.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (5 children)

In the reboot or in real life?

'Cause they were shit in real life. I don't think the asthmatic v6 they came with could even make it to 88mph

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

but it could be tweaked back into life and had some actually interesting features. its a shit vehicle, but it could have been more.

the cybertruck is just landfill material.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The whole reason it was used in the original was that it was already a massive joke of a car.

Looks ok but runs like shit, the gull wing doors broke all the time and leaked like a sive.

It's use in BTTF actually saved its reputation and gave it a place in people's heart's it never had before.

That was why I made the comparison. Shit car that needs a movie to make it relevant and slightly cool.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Precisely. That's even why Doc Brown sees it as being stylish - he's a bit out of touch

Really? That's disappointing.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

I can't find a top speed figure but it did have a 0-60mph of 10.5 seconds...and that was the manual.

When equipped with a manual transmission, the DeLorean accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 97 km/h) in 10.5 seconds as tested by Road & Track magazine.

So it may have made it to 88 but it would take a looooong time to get there. Certainly longer than the Libyans need to hit it with an RPG.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Even better, the original DeLorean didn't have a speedometer that went to 88mph. They had to change the gauge cluster for the movie.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

A 1975 econobox was that slow. Lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Yes. At least a DeLorean is a Lotus underneath, and the weak engine can be/has been solved.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I can confirm this. My friends neighbor had a DeLorean and it sat in the driveway covered in a tarp waiting for "parts" 98% of the time. I can count the times I saw him drive it on one hand.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

In the reboot.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

i fucking hope not. there's a few films and series that should never be remade or 'rebooted', and bttf is one of them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I agree completely but we both know that is not going to stop them doing it.

They did it to Ghostbusters.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

yes. yes they did. i still haven't been able to get all the way through the 'reboot'.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Then this one will be the ancient historical coach and people would ask where the horses are :-)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

I think it'll be better suited to a Mad Max reboot.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You built a time machine out of a cybertruck ?!

i dont see it. the delorean was actually a neat vehicle with a few drawbacks. the cybertruck is 100% hot garbage.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Just say the stainless steel body helps the flux capacitor work and you are good to go.

Most reboots are about call backs that are not as good as the original.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 months ago (6 children)

Yeah, but the Ford Lightining already exists & I feel dirty saying this, but Ford makes better vehicles.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Yeah, Ford deserves some credit for their electric program. Theyve done a good job with quality, reliability, and pricepoint.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (2 children)

"yeah but don't you know what ford stands for? Fix it again, tony"

Depends on who you are:

or

[–] treadful 2 points 11 months ago

The lightning is ugly AF too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Ford can make good vehicles. They turned the corner with the Taurus.

And I really dislike American car companies. I still won't own one, but have to admit they've gotten tremendously better. (Have owned them, have them in my family. Hate working on them.)

Musk claimed the Cybertruck is better than any other truck but also more of a sports car than any other sports car, made of a "special Tesla designed steel alloy" that he claimed will never rust and which cannot be stamped but which can also be produced in volume.

The skepticism is coming through very heavy and I’m all for it.

Musk implied that in a crash with another vehicle, the Cybertruck—which weighs 6,603–6,843 lbs (2,995–3,104 kg)—will destroy the other vehicle.

It’s a car, not a battlebot. Nobody should want to destroy the other vehicle in the event of a crash.

Nobody should want to destroy the other vehicle in the event of a crash.

For normal people like you and me, no, but rich narcissistic assholes will definitely want that. Since nothing is ever their fault, the other person must have caused the crash, so they deserve to pay the price.

Frankly, I think that kind of hateful, aggressive, “fuck you I got mine” marketing is the best way to sell this monstrosity.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Six thousand lbs. Holy fuck.

I'm pretty sure that like 1500lbs more than any mid-size pickup (Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline), and as much as a full-size pickup.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

And that's a 3500.

Any idea what the 1500 weighs? Gotta be notably less.

IIRC, the last generation Tundra came in at 6000lbs, in 2wd form. Think 6500 for 4wd.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My diesel Navara (Frontier in the US) is 4500lbs but then again any electric vehicle is going to be heavier than ICE cars. Rivian R1T weights 8500lbs

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

That's impressive for a diesel. Diesel usually adds a lot of weight, and that's spot-on a mid-size truck weight.

Have you ever met an American?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago
[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Modern SUVs will already crush the smaller cars, don’t have to get a special car for that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Good luck getting this thing homologated in Europe. Or any country outside the US, really. I mean, I guess the Russians will take it. Then at least we'll see how bullet proof it really is.

Wait, they actually made that thing? I assumed the project would be canceled after everyone laughed at the reveal.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 11 months ago

If you have ever worked for a large corp, you would understand.

"This is the bosses pet project. It doesn't matter how stupid it is, he wants it made and yes it will still be our fault when it is a total fucking disaster!"

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Musk, who has mostly made headlines in recent weeks for endorsing virulent antisemtitic theories on his social media platform, took to the stage almost half an hour late, initially delivering his presentation from the back of a truck with his face hidden in shadow.

Mindful of the window-breaking debacle during the truck's debut in 2019, Tesla designer Franz von Holzhausen came on stage to throw baseballs at its windows.

Musk's presentation made it sound like Tesla has developed a lot of new technology for the Cybertruck, which will come as a surprise to the OEMs that have already delivered vehicles with four-corner air suspension, 48 V ancillary systems, and torque-vectoring drive units.

We did find out some more of the truck's specifications, like its 0.34 drag coefficient (worse than a Rivian R1T, better than a Ford F-150, albeit with a larger frontal area than either).

And it has a 0–60 mph time of 2.6 seconds, possibly while towing a sports car, although it's unclear whether that was conducted with knobby off-road tires.

I braved the Beltway earlier today to go check it out and can report that although roped off behind stanchions, the fit and finish appeared far better than the preproduction prototypes that have been seen driving in the wild.

The original article contains 730 words, the summary contains 211 words. Saved 71%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

Wait a minute... was it just marketing? Did he just want to demonstrate how the rich people (with their awful attitudes) need to drive around in a tank?
