Inspire is the wrong word, because I'm old enough to be her mum, but I really loved Valeria in Veneno.

Thanks I might watch that :)

Just forewarning, they explore some pretty confronting topics and queerphobia. It's one of the most moving series I've seen, but it's not a good idea if you're feeling vulnerable.

Thanks. Do they explore it in a constructive way?

It's basically a biography of a famous, early trans icon from Spain (Veneno). It explores a lot of the trauma she experienced in her life.

It's one of the most compelling and powerful pieces of television I've seen, but it's not an easy watch.

Thanks Ada!

Well only watched ep 1. I liked the moment where Cristina opened the door and was just herself. I really identify with her aloof behavior in public, it's like armor. It's fun for other people but sometimes damaging to myself, do you know what I mean?

Finished it. Omg I don't think anything can shock me any more.

"Is she an inspiration or do you just have a crush on her?"

Me: Yes.

Oh gosh... I didn't see the question was for trans characters, I was thinking of lots of cis ladies!

  • Inara Serra from Firefly (since it was mentioned)
  • Margery Tyrell from Game of Thrones
  • Kristin Ortega from Altered Carbon
  • Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine
  • Elliot Reid from Scrubs
  • Deanna Troi from Star Trek TNG
  • Lucy Chen from The Rookie

I don't have a problem I swear ;_;

Any of the ladies from The Expanse?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I see where you're coming from with Dax (the Curzon->Jadzia transition), but I'm not convinced she is actually trans.

As far as I'm aware, Dax (as a Trill symbiote) is genderless, and Jadzia is a cis-woman.

Also, if we conceptualize her as trans, then Sisko calling her "old man" starts to sound like hate speech, but neither of them treat it as such.

Ya it's not exactly the same

I second Nomi. She's amazing and I love her.

Garnet and Pearl from Steven Universe are 2 of my fav characters in television. They're not trans though they do explore a lot of gender themes in the show.

I sadly haven't seen nearly enough overtly trans characters in shows. Stevonnie, also from Stephen Universe is a non-binary character and they're great.

Just checked it out and Stephen universe looks pretty funny.

A little bit of Najime Osana, but that's not cos she's trans that's cos he's an ADHD disaster human and owning it hard.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Wow it's drawn so beautifully

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, what specifically is drawn beautifully? Are you refering to Najime themself? The anime or manga?

Simone from Dispatches from Elsewhere was pretty pivotal for me when I first came out
