Huge fucking speakers on phones is exactly what we needed. I can’t wait to listen to some random dudes supermarket playlist.

You don't need to put it in your pocket. Just throw it on the ground and kick it along as you walk.

Finally, they are back

Phones that if thrown at someone, they break their skull, instead of shattering into dust

Explore this brand a bit, then.

I specifically bought one 4 years ago to have something that could withstand existing in an industrial environment (dust, oil, hard surfaces) and for €150 it still lasts today.

Parts are easy to find as well.

Seems cool, sadly from a Chinese company and therefore Spyware incarnate.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Yea, good thing none of our domestic phones spy on us.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I mean, it’s often easier to install a custom ROM on those to get rid of spyware

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

Custom ROMs are the best, I love that they exist and wouldn't want to live in a world without them any more. When I needed to buy a new phone two years ago, I had no idea which one I should get, but then I learnt about custom ROMs, got a Pixel, and installed CalyxOS on it, and I haven't regretted it for even one second.

Rather have my own government/usa spy on me than a red plague country with a dictatorship...

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You might reconsider based on which one has more ability/incentive to affect you

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Well my own government doesn't bombard me with commie propaganda and since i kinda work for it they already know what they need, its just that they don't care.

I said commie propaganda. I already love my own country... So there is bo need for propaganda. And since my country is in Nato and not Turkey or Hungary i don't need to worry about USA either.

I do however have a problem with commie China propaganda and Spyware. Fuck that.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago
  1. Propoganda is just as much about convincing you who/what the enemies are as it is about instilling nationalism.

  2. Your repeated use of the word "commie" tells me you're deeply steeped in a specific kind of American propoganda. Do you want help getting back to reality or are you happy where you're at?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

You are on 196, this is the commie propaganda what are you talking about

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, it's not very expensive either. Legit wondering if it could be flashed with a custom rom to get rid of the spyware because it actually kinda seems cool.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago (2 children)

The Spyware is like a virus, you'd probably have to replace the entire ROM and RAM to get rid of it.

Winnie Puh doesn't like people removing his ears and eyes...

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)

you'd probably have to replace the entire ROM and RAM to get rid of it.

That's not how ram works...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It shouldn't, but there are rams that don't get wiped completely without power, making it perfect for viruses to be installed over and over again.

I forgot the bios btw... Also a great place to store viruses.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Really? Didn't know that was a thing.

But I feel that it would be much easier to just make sure the standard software can't get replaced, rather than infecting everything with malware

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Yeah had a computer virus that effected the Bios and the ram, had to manually clean the entire thing like three times to get it out.

Pretty nasty stuff, and when its put in from the start they can just add a storage that cant wiped, wich gets booted together with the bios, its even possible to hardwire a virus in a system, actually its hilariously easy to do so if you know how.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

I own an Oukitel that I'm willing to risk flashing when I can afford a new terminal.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

Looking at the specs, there are a lot of compromises, which probably explains some of that.

  • UFS 2.2 storage.
  • "only" 8GB RAM (the 16GB "extra" is just swap space).
  • 450 nits max brightness and "only" 60Hz.
  • Video on the rear camera maxes out at 2K@30fps. It hopefully can at least do 1080p@60, but seeing as even $500 phones are starting to get 4K@60, that's a dip.
  • 33W charging for that massive battery which even they say takes 4 hours to charge fully.
  • No WiFi 6.
  • Android 13 instead of 14 and I wouldn't hold my breath for more than one update.

It still looks pretty interesting, though, and if that $300 price tag lasts until it's actually available, I'm tempted to get one just to see what it can do.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 8 months ago

I've been using this brand for some time now and the phones are well made. The option to go strong into the rugged segment payed off. But this is way over the top.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It would be an awsome phone to use for work outside, does anybody know, do these phones allow os flashing? Maybe it even supports graphene os?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 8 months ago

GrapheneOS is specifically designed for hardware with certain hardware security features, as in the lead developer will not support anything that doesn't have these. Leading it to only really being available for Pixels (but some niche company is supposed to be getting an official grapheneos version soom i believe)

Lineageos is the "runs on anything" rom.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

Actually looks kinda sick

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

is that an oukitel or are you happy to see me?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

Ahh, so this is the phone yobbos on the bus use xD

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 months ago

artefacts of ancient future yore, slap a couple solar panels on it, make them modular and im sold

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

You just know this person will be listening to music on speaker on public transport.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

Is this intended to be used in brickwork for housing?
