the only thing I've really noticed is the upvote counter being less bold and misaligned, hopefully that can be fixed

every time there's an update I check if Lemmy added a "hide post" button and by god, they actually did it

The GoT showrunners are not involved in HotD so the quality of that show is irrelevant.

that being said HotD is kinda mid IMO

Both Hackers and Mortal Kombat feature Orbital's "Halcyon And On And On" so therefore they are perfect movies.

But yeah 1995 was cooking. Strange Days and The Doom Generation are also incredible time capsules (both very dark movies tho)

I think gunner refers more to the team itself whereas gooner refers more to the fans.

I will watch the shaun videos because watching good youtubers calmly dunk on popular bad youtubers is a guilty pleasure

I guess it's easy to blame your lack of success with women on your height or dick size instead of facing the fact that they would still be unfuckable if they were 7 feet tall and had an 8 inch dick

ah, I've never watched a CinemaSins video. it sounds like something I can safely avoid because I don't like review shows that only exist to shit on movies they hate

I guess RedLetterMedia got big by doing that but at least they also sometimes talk about stuff they actually like

edit: also I don't think only obscure foreign art films count as works of art, I'm a horror fan so a lot of my favorite movies are very schlocky but still have artistic merit IMO

are you referring to all movies and shows as "slop"? because if so I strongly disagree, film is a legitimate art form and experiencing art is absolutely not meaningless. idk what this dude is watching but I wouldn't assume it's just Marvel. even good movies can have the kinds of flaws he's talking about

I can recognize faults in movies without it completely ruining my enjoyment of them, because I'm cool and normal. some people get weirdly mad any time a movie does something they don't like and I would suggest chilling tf out about it. making a movie is a complex process that involves many people making lots of decisions under specific constraints and it's pretty unreasonable to demand perfection

some of my favorite movies have definite flaws and that's okay, all art is flawed because humans are flawed. hell, sometimes it's the flaws that make a movie interesting

yeah there's a TV series, it's much better than that movie and this one is explicitly gay

I don't really think all movies need character development to be good, I mean it's definitely important in say, a character-driven drama film, but in a zany screwball comedy horror movie for kids? not so much.

Beetlejuice has a very silly premise which benefits from brevity, I think diving too deep into the characters would make the whole thing less fun and bog the movie down in terms of pacing. it's really important for a movie like that to maintain a sense of momentum, and that's very hard to do with a long runtime

I'm usually a back-and-forther but lately I've found myself eating one at a time.

I think that in a rational society everyone should feel free to choose their name, and doing so should be a normal and expected rite of passage.

It makes way more sense to choose the sound people make when they refer to you, than having your parents choose it for you before you're even a person yet.

bombs away!

would be very useful when discussing working conditions of AMZN delivery drivers

I don't mean this in a "movies suck now" kind of way, I actually think 2022 was a pretty good year for movies and 2024 will probably be better

but yeesh, 2023 seemed like a particularly bleak year for film. of those I've seen on this list, the only ones I'd heartily recommend are Bottoms and Nimona. maybe Beau is Afraid and Infinity Pool, but those are definitely not for everyone. oh and the TMNT movie was a lot of fun

(I haven't seen Flower Moon yet so don't get mad at me, Scorsesebros)

but please feel free to CMV and recommend any good movies from this year, whether they're in this image or not!

this is really fascinating. definitely recommend watching this if you are at all interested in game development, CG art or animation

saw this poster randomly on letterboxd and I can't stop looking at it, it's so good. the motion blur on the train (look at that thing go!), the floating faces in the clouds, one of which is a puppet? too perfect

I know there's a lot of horror fans on here so I thought I'd pass this along. no affiliation with that comm or instance just thought it was cool that someone made one

I had only vaguely heard about the initial allegation and subsequent disbanding, but this article goes into detail about his pattern of abuse, with corroboration from many of his victims. What a fucking scumbag.

not one of Daniel's more well-known songs but it's one of my favorite gems of his
