In the Art History courses I've taken, they usually talk about nudity in the realm of "it represents fertility" or something like that. Yeah sure... Venus of Urbino is totally about "fertility" and she's definitely not touching herself for any other reason.

I saw a pallet of candy corn at Meijer at the end of July. I bought a bag and it turned out to be the most fresh and delicious bag of candy corn I've ever eaten. Then I realized that all the stale candy corn I usually buy around October and am disappointed in is just super old because it sat around for 3 months before being eaten. So I've decided from now on, I will only enjoy candy corn during peak candy corn harvest in late July early August.

I do this with all sorts of mostly liquid food stuffs. I make a big giant batch and freeze it into various portion sizes to make quick healthy meals later. My favorite ones to make are:

  • Chicken pot pie filling

  • Spinach/basil pesto

  • Kale pesto

  • Falafel

  • Lentil burger mix

  • Cilantro sauce

  • Ginger syrup

I either use a silicone cupcake tray to make 1/3 cup pucks or I use different size takeout containers that fit the portion size. Either way, it means I can keep churning out healthy foods/sauces in the summer from things in my garden and still enjoy them in the winter when produce at the grocery store isn't as good. I usually can anything acidic like tomato sauce or apple sauce, but anyone can freeze that as well.

And then there's you did everything you possibly could yourself and you did your best and saved tons of money, but now you actually do need to pay someone to do the thing you don't trust yourself to do so you saved money just for the thing, but no contractor will agree to come do the thing because demand is high and they would rather do commercial projects. So yeah... You can't even pay a pro and you're just fucked ๐Ÿคท

We still have one in Illinois but I'm not sure how it's still holding on. Used to love going in there. Loads of specialized parts and equipment as well as staff that were super knowledgeable and helpful. But at least we have Microcenter now... Which is like if you took a Fry's and scaled it down and made it work more like a car dealership ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I'm not surprised this is true. In my experience trying to figure out what's wrong with me, my doctor did the following: ask questions about my lifestyle and diet (perfectly normal thing to do). Finds out I don't eat a lot of meat and tells me i probably have a B12 deficiency and should take a supplement or eat more meat. Does some basic tests and do not have B12 deficiency. Tells me I should still try to eat more meat or take a supplement before sending me to an endocrinologist (you know, because it's not my diet and something else entirely) ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿคท๐Ÿคท

Is it sad that I know "chiaroscuro" from Strongbad emails?

Not that this is how it should work at all, but wouldn't an easy work around for this be to simply teach this as part of human anatomy In science class rather than sex education in health class or physical education? Or does it ban these things in all its forms throughout school? Maybe they can use photos of animal sex organs ๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh shit. There's a 4 disk set I haven't played in a minute. Whelp... Time to pull out the PS1 this weekend!

Oldie but a goodie

I wanted to try out the Wray & Nephew rum that @Infynis used in a previous post and I think it turned out great! It was a LOT cheaper than I expected which is always a plus!

Recipe:

  • 11/2 oz Virgin lslands Rum
  • 11/2 oz Pineapple Juice
  • 3/40z Cream Of Coconut
  • 3/40z Fresh Orange Juice
  • Fresh Grates Nutmeg Garnish

It's been a very long week working 10 hours days. So I'm ending it on a a sweet note with one of my favorite dessert cocktails!

Recipe:

  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • ยพ oz Mr. Coffee
  • ยพ oz demerara syrup
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ยฝ oz heavy cream (oat milk and chickpea milk work good as alternatives)
  • Nutmeg for garnish

Combine ingredients except nutmeg and dry shake (shake longer if using a milk substitute). Add ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into coup glass and grate a nutmeg on top for garnish.

My personal favorite version uses barista oat milk, but I'm sure you can use whatever milk or milk alternative you like.

Gettin' too big and stretchy for its pot!

Hey everyone, I just got back from vacation and I'm super happy to see that the community didn't implode! Thank you all for being respectful while I was away and making my first mod experience a good one. I'll have to find a mod buddy before my next vacation ๐Ÿคฃ.

I'm back from vacation and it looks like this community died while I was away ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Not to worry, my husband turned into a mad scientist and decided he needed to make angostura ice cream. Is it a cocktail? Probably not, but I'll let you decide. If you want to give this a try without making homemade ice cream, you can just top some vanilla ice cream in angostura bitters and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for being respectful while I was away! I need to get a new mod buddy before my next vacation ๐Ÿคฃ. I'll post an actual real cocktail soon.

This is my husband's creation and it's quite tasty! Also I'm aware that I've posted a lot of matcha cocktails lately, but I guess that's what I've been in the mood for ๐Ÿคท.

Recipe:

  • 3/4 oz. St. George spiced pear liqueur
  • 2 oz. London dry gin
  • 3/4 oz. Honey syrup
  • 1 oz. Lemon juice
  • 1 Egg white
  • 1/4 tsp. Matcha powder
  • 1 Basil leaf for garnish

Combine ingredients in a shaker and dry shake for about 20 seconds. Add ice and shake until chilled, about 10 more seconds. Double strain into a glass and garnish with a basil leaf.

Out of all the recipes I've tried, this is my absolute favorite non-alcoholic recipe from the book Regarding Cocktails! It does contain angostura bitters, but you can leave those out if you want the drink to be 100% alcohol free. But even if you don't, it contains no more than kombucha would. Excellent recipe to make in large batches that you can add soda water to when ready to drink!

Recipe:

  • 1 oz. Lemon juice
  • 1 oz. Pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. Ginger syrup
  • 1 Bar spoon of maple syrup
  • A dash of angostura bitters
  • 3 oz. Soda water

Combine all but the soda water and shake vigorously with ice. Strain into a Collins glass with a spear of ice and a straw. Carefully top with soda water. (There isn't a garnish in the book, but some suggestions I like to use include mint, cucumber, lemon peel, or candied ginger).

This is my first focaccia made from Claire Saffitz's book Dessert Person. Here's a video with the recipe for those interested.

Got a hold of some Chartreuse this weekend and had to make this classic!

Recipe:

  • 3/4 ounce gin
  • 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse
  • 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur
  • 3/4 ounce lime juice
  • brandied cherry for garnish

Shake with ice and strain into a Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with cherry and enjoy!
