Thanks for that. I’d forgotten. Seems like a way to avoid the challenge of showing their world as a living thing.

I’ve just rewatched Prometheus and at the end the lead character has said “I don't want go to back to where we came from. I want to go where they came from.” Herself and David then take off.

In the follow up movie (Covenant), they end up in another uninhabited place. I can barely remember the movie but was so disappointed by this given I had even expecting something different since 2012 😂

I don’t plan on rewatching Covenant. Can anyone explain that apparent disconnect I have?

I used ffmpeg in a terminal because I'm familiar with typing commands. That way I could have it loop through them all.

For most people though I'd recommend using a graphical program though. Audacity is free. You can drag and drop an mp4 file (for example) into the window and it immediately gives you the audio to export to mp3 or whatever you like.

Another online commenter explained how to use VLC to do it too: "I've found that VLC media player will help with this trick. Open the .mp4 (or any audio file). Once opened, go up to the Media menu and Add your file(s) to the File Selection list. Then select Covert/Save at the bottom. In the Save window that appears, click on the down arrow found on the "Convert/Save" button at the bottom and select Convert. In that window that appears, change the Profile to the format you want (assuming Audio - MP3), give it a Destination, then Start. In just a couple moments, you'll have an mp3. GL!" It’s the very colour we’re not supposed to see at night though, if we want to sleep.

Sleep studies have found that even the standby light on a TV impacts sleep negatively.

I’ve converted Star Trek: The Next Generation to mp3 (all seven seasons) to get the entertainment without the blue light.

Their credibility is in tatters and their following at record low numbers in the EU. I think it’s no coincidence that they are thinking twice about some of the minorities they have spent history punching down on. A business decision.

Thank you, that worked!

It’s the plans to invest in Israel that bothers me at the moment. After all we’ve seen I just can’t put money into that. I’d rather not buy any tech that support that.

I think that’s generally accepted. I wanted to qualify what I’m saying a bit more by mentioning the lived experience here and the complicity of wider society.

Is there a one-line command to check my SSD? I have a headless setup. When I’ve tried on the past there was more results coming back than I knew what to do with.

I can only speak for my lifetime and that of my parents, but in my country the church has been revealed to be a child trafficking, child abusing, money laundering, woman enslaving organisation. It has a veneer of pseudo-wholesomeness.

It’s important to recognise that while people rightly expose the church for this, they usually operate with the assistance of the local communities. In Ireland people in the community would report woman who were “impure” in some way, which the church could justify for enslaving them and selling their children if those women gave birth. This is all within the last several decades and I’m sure even before then.

She has done countless subsequent women a huge favour.

I'm used to seeing articles about AI being used for either highly scientific uses or for generating semi-entertaining nonsense. For a personal business involving managing appointments, documenting meetings, tracking payments etc, can AI help with any of that? Other things include undertaking CPD training, occasional advertising as well as maintaining a website from time-to-time.

The people I know who don't think AI has any use for them belong in this category and work in the area of mental health, yoga teaching / training, nursing and massage therapy.

There’s a paragraph on a page that I need to remove temporarily. It would be easier to just collect it out like I would in HTML. Then I can restore it quickly when it’s needed again. Is it not possible?

I’m open to both online services as well as self hosting. But I’d like it to be low-maintenance.

I started doing this for a few hours before lunch to extend my battery life, but found that it actually improved my attention and productivity. I also made better choices from my less distracted state, in particular deciding I could skip an unhealthy snack etc.

As per your guidelines here https://lemmy.world/post/4505404 I'd like to request to care for this sub.

Some interesting trends here that I wasn't aware of. Eg: "Alcohol consumption in Ireland is now less than the United Kingdom and most other European countries, including Spain, France, and Germany."

After years of not bothering with alcohol I tried some of the alcohol-free versions of those drinks and the difference was negligible but the next morning was a lot more pleasant.

The original article title is "Off-license consumption fuelling rise in non-alcoholic drinks as demand for 0.0% alternative sees post-pandemic surge", but I took an interesting quote from the article for the title of this post.
