Everything learnt about emshittification I learnt from that South Park episode where Cartman buys an amusement park.

There are plenty of better reasons to hate The Verge; reposting Press Releases as "news", jumping on trends of public opinion, 12 minute video summaries of 30 minute events, staff who think Debian is some sort of anti allergy medication (this has gotten better, but there is still a little too much Tim Cook semen spitting at times.), "reporters" who have the job of reposting anything from Techmeme and techurls, the stench of Vox elitism, staff posting quote tweets as news and staff posting their purchase recommendation emails from Amazon (with affiliate links added) as "deals".

All that being said, it's still leagues ahead of Gizmodo and I do think it's worth reading.

I love it when a politician explains exactly what they did through loophole

I'm guessing he thinks some of his supporters are so dumb they can't understand they are going to get the fascism they crave unless it's explicit.

On top of all the other levels of idiocy with this he's going for the approach that when he dies there will be a power vacuum which will cause so much in fighting that whatever system he'd leave woudl fall apart in a generation or two.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO VOTE FOR A DICTATOR VOTE FOR ONE WHO WILL PUT THE EFFORT IN FOR GOD'S SAKE.

They've decided to step up the arms race because they've hit peak daily user count and the only thing they can promise to the board is force increasing premium memberships. I take it channel "memberships" are also not hitting the numbers they would like and they haven't destroyed Nebula or Patreon as they'd hoped.

Does anyone know if Lemmy has support for a "replicated instance"?

What I'm imagining is a backup of all Communities and Posts at least, in such a way that does not cause a nightmare for the Federated feed, but could be swapped in if something were to happen to the original?
