And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

This is almost exactly the same as my experience as well. My premiums are pretty high (like $500/month out of my paycheck) but when the time comes for the procedures it’s usually not too bad. One caveat, we have not had any large medical expenses except for a relatively minor outpatient surgery that my wife needed last year, bill was over $1000 but the hospital had an interest-free payment plan that let us break it up over the next 12 months with no early payment penalty, so we took advantage of that.

As another poster pointed out, the big issue is the emotional and mental toll of trying to sort things out if the slightest little thing goes wrong. You basically have to do their job for them in that case and can be exhausting.

Edit to add: as you can see in this thread, people’s expenses can vary wildly depending on a lot of factors. For my plan, even if we don’t hit our caps, there is typically still a ‘discount’ and ‘allowed charge’ that the insurance has worked out with the providers, so we still didn’t have to pay the ‘full’ amount of that surgery even though we didn’t hit our deductible or out of pocket. We’ve also been to the ER a couple times for our 7-year old and it’s typically been about $600 a pop for each. It is insanely complicated and I barely understand it all but just thankful the plan my employer offers seems decent.

I love this picture! Where did you find it?

‘Scene’ kids were the Hot Topic emo kids when I was a teenager 20ish years ago. As someone who was into 2nd wave emo, it always made me die a little that ‘Scene’ is what most people think of when they hear ‘emo’.

A wild Bright Eyes lyric appears!

If I remember correctly, the English ‘thou’ used to be the informal/singular as opposed to formal ‘you’. Also that a lot of Indo-European languages informal pronoun starts with t- because of the same root word: ‘thou’, ‘tu’, the Russian version (I don’t have a Cyrillic keyboard on my phone but it sounds a little like ‘tuh-ee’.

I’m sure a linguist on here can correct me on this if necessary!

I have never used Uber or any ride sharing app, and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. When we travel we either rent a vehicle, use local public transit, or have friends .

The B-wing was so cool when I was a kid. Star Wars does asymmetrical ships so well.

Wasn’t this in C&C: Red Alert 2?

I always loved the Mon Cal cruisers!

Hello all, I am a 39M whose wife (42F) was just diagnosed with ADHD. We’ve had a suspicion ever since our 6 year old was diagnosed and we started doing a deep dive into it and realizing a lot of the symptoms fit her. Even some of the memes from this community helped her to start looking into it herself. She is relieved to find out she’s not just ‘a disorganized slob’, that there is a reason for her struggles, but now the real work begins.

My question is: what do you wish your partner would have known/done for you? I want to be as supportive as possible and make sure I’m not contributing to any negative feelings, and help her find ways to build coping mechanisms. Just looking for any advice!

Just found out about this law that went into effect in 2021 in MD. HOAs or communities cannot require turf-only landscapes.

Just so tired of almost every time a doctor submits stuff to insurance, we have to be the ones to make multiple phone calls to both the doctor's office and insurance to iron everything out, figure out what the issue is (it's always a different issue), and basically be the go-between for the office and insurance. What am I paying $500+/month for?! It's like paying for the privilege of having an exhausting part-time job.

And yes, I understand that insurance wants to weasel out of paying anything, but this isn't even shadiness, just straight up incompetence and lack of communication/following procedures. The amount of emotional energy we have to spend untangling this stuff leaves us drained.

So excited for this - a sequel to Star Control 2.

So my wife and I were watching through Babylon 5 on Tubi. We've both never seen it and have really enjoyed it. We hit the end of season 4 and it really felt like the end of the show (I'm aware of the background issues and also that the season 5 finale was filmed for the end of season 4 but then shifted around) and we were very satisfied with where everything was left. We took a break to put a hold at our library on a DVD of the movies to watch "In the Beginning" before we started season 5. Got the DVD, started watching it, and my wife started falling asleep, so we stopped and just...haven't gone back. I can't explain it, but neither of us feel super motivated to continue even though we were really enjoying the show.

So, B5 fans who have watched the whole series, what can you say to motivate us to continue watching?!

Just to be clear, this isn’t my creation, just something I found and wanted to share.

Clips are from my favorite MST3K episode "The Undead". A delightfully dreadful film from 1957 directed by the king of B-movies, Roger Corman.
