Also, this whole post is pretty disgusting popularity contest bullshit imo. Still, there are some awesome posters here and there who deserve some sort of meta-recognition.

Not to be too cornball, but there is a core to hexbear. SFS has consistently embodied it since chao.chat days. Comedy is always spot on. One liners are consistently bangers. I mean the guy makes me crack up but also seethe at the same time. Is that not the raison d'être of hexbear? There's also the human vulnerability. Some here are open about some of the shit they've gone through in life, and SFS has been through some fucking hell. I have a lot of respect for that. A good person, a comrade and a comic. There are a number of people here who the site is lucky to have posting. SorosFootSoldier is undeniably one of them.

What, you didn't like the fact that others already schooled you on that topic, and you wanted me to hold your hand through that too? No, I think it's actually that you're embarrassed that you have exactly zilch to say of any consequence in response to everything else in my comment. Whatever the case, I'm happy to leave it as-is, since anyone who can read beyond a grade-2 level will recognize your cringe for what it is. You can't even fall back on that bullshit you made up about being misquoted, since even that was an obvious lie. 🙄

Sounds like it could be the same person, yeah. And if not, they're infected with brainworms from the same lineage.

All of the positive things that happened within the totalitarian racist regime of the US not only could have happened jus3t as easily elsewhere, these things would have probably happened sooner and certainly in ways that benefited more people. Take insulin as an example, the doctor who discovered it refused to patent it in his name so as not to deny access of it to people who weren't rich enough. He had to do that in spite of how medicine for profit worked/works in the shithole US. And look at it now! An ongoing struggle for people to be able to afford it and not, you know, FUCkING DIE, so they have to pay thousands of dollars a month, totally unnecessarily.

Capitalism in general, with the US being the shining example of it, is and always has been the enemy of art, culture, and medicine. It has been and will continue to be the enemy of the people, those who just want to live a fulfilling life and contribute to the community and culture they grew from and are a part of.

How many brilliant people lived and died in poverty because capitalism can only function with a large and severely exploited underclass? How many of those people would have gone on to achieve great things had they only had their basic needs like food and shelter met? All of those advancements (and the ones that really were advancements like in medicine and art, not bazinga bullshit that only helps the most wealthy) happened despite the imperialist, capitalist, great Satan that is the U.S., not because of it. How much further along, technologically, would we be were we not stifled by the capitalist system that suppresses the potential of the masses? What advancements in medicine would we have now, were it not for the absurd need to turn a profit instead of helping people? Cuba alone has shown that if the world had followed its lead in prioritizing genuine medical research regardless of profit, we could well have fucking cured cancer by now!

Anyone who attributes technological, artist, medicinal, etc achievements and advancements made under capitalism to capitalism (outside of maybe rapid industrialization) is full of shit and is in desperate need of reeducation. Capitalism is only a hindrance to human achievement, and we can only realize the full extent of human potential once capitalism is thrown into the garbage heap of failed modes of production where it belongs. Where it no longer holds us back and holds us down, where it is no longer able to thwart the deep, empathetic social aspect of our species from flourishing, no longer able at every turn to suffocate the true human ingenuity that emerges from us in aggregate as social, collaborative, empathetic creatures.

Wouldn’t it be fair to actually get the quote right.

What tf are you talking about? The only thing I quoted you on I did so with a screenshot. What did I quote wrong according to you? Do you think I went and edited the image file or something? lol If you're talking about the person I replied to, who did make use of quotation marks in their comment, it was clear to everyone that they were not directly quoting you. They were demonstrating a sentiment, one that most here can recognize as common among fascists, a sentiment that you also leaned heavily on, even if you didn't outright say it. You're just picking some little thing to be mad about like "you mis-quoted me!!" because the content of CyborgMarx's comment was spot on and you just aren't capable of countering it.

I’ve read the work of your theorists here

You've read the "theorists" "here"? Do you think I'm talking about other commenters when I refer to theory? lol. No, I doubt you've read any theory. Marx and Engels? Lenin? Or maybe more directly relevant to this, Gramsci? Debord? Fanon?

not one has mentioned a civilization that never made the kinds of disgusting, vile, and despicable mistakes that the US made/makes.

I'll defer to the other people who commented and answered this, making clear to everyone that you don't know wtf you're even talking about.

If they have, sorry I missed that, so please enlighten me.

Well, they did, so I hope you consider yourself enlightened now.

Also — get the quote right?

What, you want I should get a higher resolution screenshot next time? lol

This. Fucking this is why I called out the comment to begin with. I don't have the theoretical background to truly explain why this horrible sentiment is so insidious. Why it's so disgusting and weasely. Thank you comrade, for putting to words all those things I found so despicable about the original comment but couldn't articulate myself.

Lemmygrad isn't "hated" by most of the wider lemmyverse. There's just a loud and obnoxious minority of people that will rail and rant about lemmygrad. They loudly rant about lemmygrad because they aren't used to seeing their worldview get challenged and by its very nature as a radical leftist community, lemmygrad is a challenge to the typical background liberal perspective.

It's no surprise we all end up seeing a lot of threads about "those mean tankies at lemmygrad" (and hexbear too) made by people who can't take their worldview getting questioned, or even shown to be flawed, or just not standing up to their own scrutiny, and who get mad when that happens. There are also of course people with ideological reasons to demonize leftwing politics and will spread shit for that reason alone. But overall, I don't think most people care enough except to think "oh yeah that's that instance with those radical lefties, they're weird but they do make some great memes sometimes."

Was this image just well known on hexbear or in general? Because I can't find it anywhere except that it was submitted as an emoji here 2 years ago.

The Ukranian people wanted to join NATO

No they didn't. It's part of the reason so many Ukrainians especially in the east and south of the country started movements to try to gain independence from the fascist Ukrainian coup government.

The reason was safety and their fears have been justified by what has happened.

The reason was not safety and hundreds of thousands would not have died needlessly in a proxy war if the fascist coup government had not been installed by pro-NATO western powers. Most Ukrainians were not so stupid as to think striving to join NATO was anything but a road to war, which is what has happened.

And NATO would never invade Russia anyway due to its nuclear umbrella.

No shit. That's why they're using Ukraine for a proxy war.

And why would they want to anyway?

There are many reasons they (US/NATO/"the west') want to destroy Russia as it is. They want another comprador government in Russia that is subservient to their interests, not an independent and powerful state that could become an economic competitor (or at least a major component of an economically competitive bloc). They want to exploit Russia (much as they did after the fall of the Soviet Union) by privatizing everything and selling it off for a pittance to American bourgeoisie, just as they have done and are right now doing to Ukraine. Another way of phrasing that last point would be to say they want unfettered access to Russia's resources (natural resources, labor, etc.) on their terms, not in terms of the national interest of Russians. They want to want to prevent a multipolar world and maintain their global hegemony. They want a government in Russia they control to put further pressure on China. They want to prevent Europe from buying its energy from Russia so that Europe is entirely dependent on the US for Europe's continued existence. That last one they have already achieved by destroying the Nordstream pipeline, just as Biden promised he would.

And the rebels in the Donbas are and have always been aligned with the Russian agressors, and against Kiev. Remember they used to fight the Ukrainian army even before the invasion.

Everything you've said here is a point against your position (of Russia and the people of Donbas being the aggressors), not for it. First of all, "always" should be replaced with "since 2014." Think about what you're saying, "the rebels sided with 'the aggressors' even before 'the aggressors' did their 'aggression'!" If some kid on a playground, kid 1, starts beating the shit out of a smaller kid, kid2, and a third one, kid3 steps in and punches kid1 to stop him from killing kid2, would you say "kid2 always sided with the aggressive kid3"? If so, you're a fucking idiot. I guess the people of the Donbas should have just allowed neo-nazis to ethnically cleanse them? They should have just been ok with scores of union members being burned alive? They should have accepted laws that banned their language and made them (at best) second class citizens? And Russia stepping in on their behalf makes Russia the aggressors, not the fascist coup government waging an ethnic cleansing campaign?
