Egyptian comedian and Israel critic Bassem Youssef’s X account was suspended or deactivated following a series of controversial remarks about Jews.

Youssef’s last post on the social media platform alleged that antisemitism was being used as a fear tactic that was no longer effective.

“Are you still scared to be called an antisemite by those Zionists,” Youssef wrote on Monday.

Youssef said on Facebook the same day that he knew he was angering Zionists because they were “crying, whining and bitching” on his accounts about antisemitism.

The activist said on Sunday that clips of him decrying Jews for claiming to be “the chosen people” on July 31 of the This Past Weekend podcast were causing controversy.

Youssef said, in response to the viral clips, that he wished to clarify his point: if “you are chosen to spread the word of God or chosen to do good things to other people, that is wonderful,” but Israeli Jews were using this “divine’ status to take other people [sic] land and kill them.”

Shmuley Boteach, a popular celebrity rabbi filed a complaint with the FBI against Candace Owens on Monday, a controversial figure in conservative media after she seemingly accused him and his daughter of trying to kill her.

“Please let me immediately advise you of a new threat against me and my family, including my daughter Rochel Leah, also a Jewish public figure,” Boteach wrote.

“Yesterday, before more than one million people in a live X feed,” who he called, “arch antisemites,” Candace Owens, “arguably the foremost female Jew-hater in America, accused me of trying to murder her, in collaboration with the world’s Zionists, thereby putting a national target on my back and naming me specifically from all American Jewish leaders,” Boteach wrote to the FBI.

“I need not impress upon you the serious danger that a Jew-hater with a national following places on a defenseless rabbi when she tells her followers that the rabbi is a murderer and plans to have her killed. This is the ultimate blood libel, that Jews are killers and people must therefore kill the Jews first, before they strike,” he wrote in detail.

According to Boteach, Owens, months ago, “insinuated that I killed Michael Jackson. Two days ago, to her 5.5 million X followers, she said that Michael Jackson put me on a list of Jews who were seeking to destroy his life. She outright said that my daughter and I are ‘lying and smearing and libeling and killing.’”

Religious Zionist MK Zvi Sukkot characterized the serious incidents of violence committed by settlers in the West Bank as a "super marginal phenomenon, a drop in the ocean compared to Arab terrorism," the Religious Zionist MK said on Sunday.

He added, "This is a serious crime; I don’t like to use the word terror. If they had heard me, they would have behaved differently. There is not one person there who does not know my position on the issue; it is not some secret," he said in an interview with 103FM.

As a reminder, Zvi Sukkot was one of the MKs who broke through the fence of the Sde Teiman detention facility along with rioters after IDF reservists were detained for sexual abuse of a Nukhba terrorist.

Sukkot also commented on the ongoing efforts to secure a hostage deal, which continued at the summit held in Doha. “I don’t think a deal is going to come out of those talks,” he claimed.

“Once again, the families of the hostages are being led to raise their expectations. From what I understand, Hamas will not be flexible in areas where Israel has established clear red lines. We are stuck in the same cycle repeatedly.”

KYIV, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Ukrainian lawmakers on Tuesday passed a law envisaging a ban on the activities of a Russia-linked branch of the Orthodox church, paving the way for a historic rupture with an institution that Kyiv has accused of complicity in Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. A majority of Ukrainians are Orthodox Christians but the faith is split into one branch traditionally tied to the Russian Orthodox Church - Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), and an independent Orthodox Church of Ukraine, recognised by the world Orthodox hierarchy since 2019.

Ukrainian leaders have accused the Moscow-linked UOC of abetting Russia's 30-month-old war on Ukraine by spreading pro-Russian propaganda and housing spies.

The bill passed by 265 lawmakers bans the Russian Orthodox Church on Ukrainian territory and says that a government commission will assemble a list of "affiliated" organisations whose activities are not allowed.

The list is expected to target the UOC specifically.

A former training opponent of Imane Khelif has waded into the controversy surrounding the Olympic champion.

Joana Nwamerue, a Bulgarian-Nigerian women’s boxer, alleged Khelif is a “man to me” with “male power and male techniques” that Nwamerue said she witnessed during a February training match, according to the Daily Mail .

Nwamerue then bizarrely alleged that Khelif has been “biologically altered” by living in the mountains.

Khelif won gold at the Olympics in Paris, but also had to deal with many questioning her gender.

“(Khelif) has some kind of internal issues. But he is a man. I will stay (by) my words until he/she does a test to prove to the world that he/she is a woman. But we all know that won’t happen,” Nwamerue told Reduxx.

Nwamerue said she was told that Khelif had allegedly been “biologically altered” by living in the mountain ranges of Algeria.

“She is a woman and just lives high in the mountains with her relatives and parents and so there may be a change in her testosterone or chromosomes and the like.”

The vessel was hit by the tornado at around 5 a.m. Monday, according to a spokesperson for Italy’s Coast Guard. The yacht was anchored about a half a mile from the port of Porticello on the Mediterranean island.

Four Britons and two Americans are among those missing, the spokesperson said.

A source told CNN that Lynch, the founder of software giant Autonomy, was a passenger on the yacht. The source spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Fifteen people were rescued, including Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares, and one child was airlifted to the children’s hospital in Palermo. Eight people were hospitalized in total, according to the mayor’s office. One body was found on the hull of the yacht, the Coast Guard said.

The organizations, which include hundreds of religious groups, are accused of failing to report their financial statements for a period of between one and 35 years, according to a notice published Monday in the government gazette, La Gaceta.

Some associations effectively shuttered by the announcement were sports oriented, hosting basketball, tennis and soccer teams. There were groups for health, womens’ rights, LGBTQ rights, legal associations and veterans’ clubs. Over 400 of the groups were religiously-tied organizations, most of them Christian.

CNN has reached out to the Vatican and Pontifical Commission for Latin America for comment.

Earlier this month, Nicaragua canceled the legal status of the Diocese of Matagalpa’s Caritas for alleged bureaucratic reasons, according to Vatican News. The diocese is headed by Bishop Rolando Alvarez, a vocal critic of the government who lives in exile after being convicted of charges including conspiracy and treason.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday that the Ukrainian assault on Russia’s Kursk Oblast shows that Moscow’s red lines and threats of retaliation are a bluff.

Zelensky made the comments while criticizing the US and its NATO allies for not allowing Ukraine to use Western-provided weapons to launch long-range strikes inside Russian territory.

“We are witnessing a significant ideological shift – the naive, illusory concept of so-called red lines regarding Russia, which dominated the assessment of the war by some partners, has crumbled apart these days,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader claimed that if Ukraine had been allowed to fire NATO weapons deep inside Russia, it wouldn’t have had to launch the offensive in Kursk. He also claimed that long-range strikes would stop Russia’s gains in eastern Ukraine, which have become more rapid amid the fighting in Kursk.

“You must realize, both here and in the capitals where you work, that Ukraine is separated from stopping the advance of the Russian army at the front by only one decision, which we expect from our partners. And this is a decision on long-range capabilities,” he said.

More:

LOS ANGELES — “Friends” actor Matthew Perry was experiencing an out-of-control ketamine addiction, injecting the drug six to eight times a day, before his accidental overdose death, prosecutors say.

...

In court documents filed Thursday, federal prosecutors accuse Plasencia of telling a patient that Perry was “too far gone and spiraling in his addiction” the week before he died but that he still offered to sell Perry ketamine through Iwamasa anyway.

...

According to prosecutors, Perry had been seeking out unsupervised doses of the controlled substance and had developed an “out of control” dependence on it. Ketamine, an anesthetic with psychedelic properties, is a popular party drug that has recently been found to be a promising alternative treatment for some mental illnesses but carries serious medical risks.

Perry, 54, was found face down in the heated end of a pool at his Pacific Palisades home on Oct. 28. When he died, the levels of ketamine in his body were high — equivalent to the amount used for general anesthesia during surgery, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

...

Perry paid Plasencia — through his assistant — at least $55,000 for ketamine in the month before he died, Iwamasa’s plea agreement says. Fleming was paid about $12,000 for two deals, one of them just days before Perry died.

One more detail as reported by People:

The woman was found the next morning half-naked on a podium having suffered serious injuries, according to the report from the BBC.

Some of the only further details I've found:

Indian media have reported the murdered doctor was found in the teaching hospital's seminar hall, suggesting she had gone there for a brief rest during a long shift.

An autopsy has confirmed sexual assault, and in a petition to the court, the victim's parents have said that they suspected their daughter was gang-raped, according to Indian broadcaster NDTV.

Though police have detained a man who worked at the hospital helping people navigate busy queues, officers have been accused of mishandling the case.

Kolkata's High Court on Tuesday transferred the case to the elite Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to "inspire public confidence."

Raygun says Olympic criticism has been 'devastating'

(full text of article follows)

Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn says the backlash to her performance at the Olympics has been "devastating".

Gunn - who is known as B-girl Raygun - has been the subject of a social media storm since breaking's debut at the Paris Games last week.

A petition calling for an apology from Gunn, 36, as well as from Australia's Olympic chef de mission Anna Meares, now has more than 54,000 signatures.

In an Instagram video,, external Gunn said she didn't realise her appearance would "open the door to so much hate".

On Thursday, Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) chief executive Matt Carroll said the petition had "stirred up public hatred without any factual basis", adding it was "vexatious, misleading and bullying".

Meanwhile, the petition says Gunn and track cyclist Meares - who is a two-time Olympic champion - should say sorry for "attempting to gaslight the public and undermining the efforts of genuine athletes".

After thanking her supporters, Gunn said: "I really appreciated the positivity and I’m glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives - that’s what I hoped.

"Well, I went out there and I had fun - I did take it very seriously. I worked my butt off preparing for the Olympics and I gave my all. Truly.

"And I’m honoured to have been a part of the Australian Olympic team; to be a part of breaking’s Olympic debut."

Gunn, a university lecturer from Sydney, lost all three of her round-robin battles by a combined score of 54-0.

However, she hit back, saying: "Bit of a fun fact for you: there are actually no points in breaking.

"If you want to see how the judges scored me compared to my opponents, you can actually see the comparison percentages across the five criteria on Olympics.com, external - all the results are there."

She also asked her critics "in regard to the allegations and misinformation floating around", to refer to Carroll's statement, in which he said Gunn was "selected through a transparent and independent qualification event and nomination process".

Gunn added: "I'd really like to ask the press to please stop harassing my family, my friends, the Australian breaking community and the broader street dance community.

"Everyone has been through a lot as a result of this, so I ask you to please respect their privacy."

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the mpox outbreak in parts of Africa a public health emergency of international concern.

The highly contagious disease - formerly known as monkeypox - has killed at least 450 people during an initial outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It has now spread across parts of central and east Africa, and scientists are concerned about how fast a new variant of the disease is spreading and its high fatality rate. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the potential for further spread within Africa and beyond "is very worrying".

"A co-ordinated international response is essential to stop this outbreak and save lives," he said.

Mpox is transmitted through close contact, such as sex, skin-to-skin contact and talking or breathing close to another person.

It causes flu-like symptoms, skin lesions and can be fatal, with four in 100 cases leading to death.

I had a very great day yesterday, and this morning was good, too... But when I read this... I felt the darkness.

I remember seeing the initial footage of the police apprehending him.

I could not comprehend any of this. It's enough when children are massacred to really pull your heart strings, but this poor boys getting lined up... one of them chased down and dragged back to be shot like this...

It's pretty unreal. The darkest thing.

If you believe, toss a few prayers up for the surviving mother and all the people touched by this.

This is also very relevant:

The ability to be preapproved, however, encouraged some Thais to travel to South Korea, find jobs and stay longer than 90 days while earning three to four times the minimum daily wage back home.

South Korea says these illegal workers led to social problems and that they engaged in criminal activity, forcing immigration officials to put Thai travelers with K-ETA visas through secondary inspections.

According to South Korean government data, there were 157,000 Thai nationals residing illegally as of September 2023, triple the number recorded in 2015. The government said last year that since 2016, Thais have accounted for the largest portion of foreigners staying in the country illegally. When the Thai Ministry of Labor in 2023 opened a channel for Thais staying illegally in South Korea and wanting to return home, 2,601 Thais registered.

Helps put it into perspective.

So this is an interview with someone who t was involved with her through a network of other staff who were modernizing her boxing regimen as she had been training from a holistic, intuitive approach in Algeria prior to her arrival in France where she would go on to be working with a gym in Tarbes and another in Nice.

Some relevant Google translated portions of the interview:

Q: She discovers it at that moment…

A: Yes, and me too, even if she has a rather particular morphotype. The fact remains that people have a particular physical appearance, it is so different inside themselves. For Imane, she was born a girl. She was raised as a girl. She has a girl's sensitivity. On that basis, why wouldn't we test everyone who has superior abilities to others? For example, the immense French basketball player Victor Wembanyama, in terms of his growth hormones? It's stupid. Everyone is different, fortunately, otherwise there would be no competition. Let's put ourselves in a performance perspective: what is competition? It's a subject, a man or a woman, who is superior to others.

Q: The Algerian team didn't know anything either?

A: They are 50,000 leagues away from these biological aspects. They were happy to have a good boxer. She is a young woman, I repeat, who was raised like a girl.

Q: What happens after this thunderclap announcement?

A: After the 2023 World Championships, where she was disqualified, I took the lead by contacting a renowned endocrinologist from the Parisian University Hospital, Kremlin-Bicêtre, who examined her. He confirmed that Imane is indeed a woman, despite her karyotype and her testosterone level. He said: "There is a problem with her hormones, with her chromosomes, but she is a woman." That's all that mattered to us. We then worked with a doctor based in Algeria to monitor and regulate Imane's testosterone level, which is currently within the female norm. Tests clearly show that all her muscular and other qualities have been diminishing since then. Currently, she can be compared on a muscular and biological level to a woman-woman-woman (Fr: et au niveau biologique à une femme-femme-femme).

Q: Regarding this rate, did you follow a recommendation from the International Olympic Committee?

A: I was so disappointed to see her stupidly disqualified at the world championships in New Delhi that I wanted to take the lead. But in hindsight, I wonder if I was wrong to get involved in this… The Olympic Games medical commission had made a lot of publicity around the training of its samplers to judge, among other things, the testosterone level of the athletes competing in the Games. So I wanted us to put all the chances on her side, and for her level to be within the required limits.

Q: Some say that XY profiles display a physical, muscular superiority over XX.

A: It is said that everyone should do sports. Everyone, except these people? Some say that we should make special categories, but even within a group of hypoandrogenic or hyperandrogenic people, there are differences between them. There is such a significant variation that we cannot make categories.

Q: I ask the same question to the biology teacher that you are…

A: Between boys and girls, it is at puberty, in terms of performance, that there is a dissociation linked to testosterone. Testosterone is an anabolic hormone and therefore one that builds muscles. This explains why boys are stronger than girls in terms of muscle. My answer is hesitant, because some women display a muscular quality close to that of men. And performance is the interaction of multiple components, including physical aspects. In some sports, physical aspects play an important role in performance. You will never see skinny boxers, whether they are men or women.

Q: Did you watch the IBA press conference that took place during the Olympics?

A: No, I didn't want to rekindle my anger. There are a lot of things that could be said about the IBA. Its head is a strange bird. He doesn't want the IOC to get involved in boxing... All I know is that the IBA ended up justifying itself after the fact. If they had warned us before the 2023 World Championships, we would have been vigilant. They made Imane eligible for her first three matches, then ineligible for the final. They sent her a letter in English when she can't read that language, asking her to sign it to get her results. She should never have signed that letter.

Q: What does this imply?

A: That she acknowledged the disqualification… Everything was spun in a funny way in New Delhi during these Worlds.

Q: What are these IBA results about? A karyotype? Testosterone levels?

A: From what I read, during its recent press conference, the IBA did not wish to go into detail or reveal the nature of the tests carried out, so it is better to stick to the IOC's position, which confirmed the eligibility of Imane as well as that of the Taiwanese also disqualified by the IBA in New Delhi in March 2023.

That is every relevant and every not-so-relevant excerpt from the article.
