I mean, my idea was that it would be effectively mothballed until we have the technology to restore it or something, so the shielding doesn't really matter. But yeah, the delta-v would probably destroy it. I kinda doubt it could handle it.

It'd be funnier if they flipped it so he was facing the other player.

I've had creepypasta-esque nightmares and I love those. I've also had dreams that would have probably been legitimately traumatizing if I had a better memory.

I can confirm that you could pick spawn points in BF2 and BF2142.

Yeah. I'm not sure how well it'd survive reentry either, but personally, I kinda think broken but repairable is better that fully vaporized.

Another possibility I considered is welding some steel beams to the outside, vacating the internal atmosphere and then pushing it into a stable orbit; or even pushing it into the moon's orbit (if it was in the moon's orbit then you wouldn't have to worry as much about debris generated by collisions). Then it could sit there until we have the technology to either repair and recommission it, tow it back to earth, or renovate it and turn it into a tourist attraction (yanno, hoping we survive long enough for space tourism to be an actual thing).

That said, I have no idea if it'd be able to survive deceleration if you tried to put it in the moon's orbit though. While acceleration could probably be slow and gentle, the deceleration required to keep it in the moon's orbit might be too much for it.

I'm wondering how long it is until someone pulls another Kaze and over-optimizes an old console game until it runs in 1080p@60fps on original hardware or something.

(Kaze Emanuar is a ROM hacker with a deep understanding of Super Mario 64. A couple years ago he released a video showing how he spent a ton of time optimizing the game, resulting in a game that runs on original hardware at 60fps instead of 20fps. Afaik he hasn't released the vanilla code yet, but I've heard he's used it in some of his other rom hacks and it's apparently extremely obvious because they run significantly faster than hacks that use the default, unoptimized ROM)

Eh, whatever, it wasn't that important and I don't really have the time to take care of it now.

Heeeeeyyy, would you look at that! The problem took care of itself. Time to procrastinate some more!

Man, I really hope someone rich steps up before the ISS gets deorbited and pays to have the modules separated and sent back one-by-one, instead of just tossing it into the atmosphere and letting it burn up. It feels like a crime against humanity to just abandon it like that. At the very least, surely we could come up with a strap-on heat shield and parachute system so the parts could splash-down and get recovered, repaired, and stored in a museum.

Edit: why is this being downvoted? Is it because I said "someone rich"? I said that because I think rich people are the only ones with the money and willpower to get it done. I don't like relying on them, but I don't think most of the US population cares enough to get the government or NASA to do it.

I don't get why people still smoke tbh. I understand vaping (though for disclosure, I vape), but I don't understand smoking.

I can understand vaping because you can control your nicotine intake, you can control how it tastes, how much vapor is produced, you can make your own ejuice, there's evidence that it's less harmful than smoking (less harmful, not "harmless" just "less harmful"), it doesn't usually smell like shit, it doesn't color the walls, doesn't coat your lungs with tar, is probably more environmentally friendly if you have a refillable vape instead of one of those shitty disposable ones (at the very least you won't leave butts everywhere)...

There are probably other upsides to vaping over smoking that I'm forgetting, but like, why would you smoke when vaping exists? I can understand an occasional cigar, cigarette, hookah or pipe, but I can't understand doing it regularly. Even if we pretend the health impact is the same, you're still gonna smell like some kind of metallic garbage and ruin your possessions and home.

I'm not saying non-smokers should vape, I just don't understand why smokers refuse it.
