Subq hurts less than IM and is generally easier to do on yourself. Not like IM is impossible, but subq has spots on your belly that are convenient to self admin and easier to rotate (matters more for insulin to have lots of rotating spots). IM usually requires fewer doses in a given month, slower absorption - it doesn't impact HRT quite as much, but IM is also initially faster too (matters more for like subq Dilaudid vs IM Dilaudid or an epipen where you need the epinephrine RIGHT NOW and can't wait as long for the subq initial absorption)
