Yes, but also because the rest of the books abandon the swashbuckling action and are basically science fiction political dramas.

Doesn't he have to put the whole 85m in a bond deposited with the court as a requirement to begin the appeal process?

Me too, however I vaccinated early and was mostly good about isolation when it was required, hence it's plausible that I have been lucky.

No, they realised that they had the freedom of movement. The Brexit vote was in part to punish people like you because you still had that freedom.

I don't think that is possible. An injunction granted in 2022 prevented him from liquidating assets and transferring wealth out of state. I believe the court has also appointed a special master specifically to scrutinize any transaction made by the Trump Organization, with a view to specifically preventing any suspicious transfer.

The financial unsustainability of traditional, car-centric American suburbs, consisting mainly of single-family units, is a critical aspect of the problem of urban sprawl. The design of these suburbs necessitates constant expansion into undeveloped land. This is because the initial infrastructure costs, such as roads, utilities, and public services, are often subsidized by development fees and future property taxes from new construction. However, as these communities age, the costs of maintaining and replacing this infrastructure can significantly exceed the revenue from property taxes, creating a financial shortfall. This is often referred to as a "growth Ponzi scheme" – new development brings in a temporary influx of revenue, which is used to pay for the cost of existing liabilities, but in the process, incurs even more long-term liabilities.

Moreover, the dispersed, low-density nature of these suburbs compounds the issue, leading to inefficient public service delivery and increased per capita costs. The reliance on private vehicles, due to large distances between residences, workplaces, and essential amenities, also places a heavy financial burden on families, particularly those in lower income brackets. Affordable housing options are limited, contributing to socio-economic segregation. Furthermore, the conversion of natural and agricultural land into residential and commercial areas can lead to losses in ecosystem services, the costs of which are often not accounted for. Thus, from both a municipal and a resident perspective, traditional American suburbs present a financially unsustainable model for urban development.

Lemmy users are invited to an evening of improvised comedy at The Glitch, Lower Marsh, London SE1. Oddly enough the venue is selling tickets for a few pounds, but if you want a free ticket just reply to me and I will comp you one.

Yesterday a woman received a 28 month sentence, with over a year in custody, for using abortion pills to end her pregnancy. Humanists UK has reacted with shock and horror, and calls for immediate action to reform abortion law in England and Wales.

Carla Foster, a mother of three, will spend 14 months in custody and a further 14 months on licence, as she took abortion bills outside the legal limit using pills at home during the pandemic. Ms Foster was initially charged with child destruction which she denied and later pled guilty to an offence under a Victorian law, the 1861 Offences Against the Person Act.
