Here's how this conversation has gone so far:

  • You: Clinton dynasty!
  • Me: One generation consisting of two people who aren't even related isn't a dynasty.
  • You: (Topic change) Fuck responding to your point, I'm just here to hate on Clinton cheating her way into the nomination and giving us Trump!
  • Me: She didn't give us Trump, and you sound like a conspiracy theorist. Clinton didn't cheat, she literally just got way more votes in the 2016 primaries because her voters showed up and Bernie's didn't.
  • You: (Topic change) Fuck responding to your point, here's an Instagram post that pushes my favorite conspiracy theories about the DNC, none of which acknowledge that Clinton's voters turned up and Bernie's didn't!
  • Me: Just gonna point out that the DNC didn't stop Bernie's supporters from voting.
  • You: (Topic change) I said, fuck responding to your point, here's a random video from some guy arguing that both parties are the same!

Since that's how this has gone, here's my last response on this thread:

  • Me: Why hasn't literally everyone blocked this guy yet? Well, I guess I'll do my part.

I cordially invite you to reassess how you interact with people, but you've lost the opportunity to do that with me. Bye.

Oh, so the Democratic establishment stopped Bernie supporters from voting in Democratic primaries? No? And your response was a non sequitur?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 12 hours ago (10 children)

By winning the party's nomination and running for president? The fact that she failed to beat Trump doesn't mean she didn't try.

Or wait... Are you one of those conspiracy theorists who thinks the DNC stole the nomination from Bernie? Bernie supporters stole the nomination from Bernie - and I say that as someone who freaking loves Bernie Sanders and voted for him in the primaries. With all the loud, public demonstrations they did in 2016, you know what they didn't do? They didn't 1) fucking register as Democrats, and 2) fucking vote in the primaries. Clinton won the primaries in a landslide.

I have a good friend who worked for the Democratic party in Oregon. He strongly supported Bernie, too. But somehow, all his pleas to his fellow Bernie-or-bust types to actually register as Democrats for Oregon's closed primaries fell on deaf ears. They preferred to march in the streets instead of march to the ballot dropbox and make a fucking difference.

OK, real talk... What dynasty?

No seriously, what fucking dynasty?

Bill Clinton was president. Hillary Clinton - who is not his descendant and has her own successes from before and after his presidency - has every right to her own career. Their daughter has shown no interest in becoming a politician.

So... what dynasty? Where are the multiple generations of Clinton politicians dominating some aspect of American life? Is there also an Obama dynasty, consisting solely of Barack and Michelle Obama? Their kids don't seem interested in politics right now, either.

You're not angry because Hillary Clinton has her own career and ambitions, are you? Because telling the "Clinton dynasty" to "F OFF" sure seems like you're just angry at a "dynasty" of a single married couple.

What's to tell? She withdrew when she realized she didn't have the votes at the time. End of story.

The important thing that happened after that was Biden selecting his one-time rival as his running mate.

Trump must be watching this and shitting himself even more than he usually does. The difference between this roll call and the one at the RNC is night and day.

Hell, the sheer energy levels are different by several orders of magnitude.

[–] [email protected] 114 points 1 day ago (7 children)

I strongly suspect most of the people pushing that particular line aren't eligible to vote... in American elections, that is.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This rollcall vote is surprisingly fun to watch, even if it's entirely ceremonial.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

So, how the hell are all these people still so energetic? They're screaming their heads off every time a speaker delivers a good line, they're dancing along to Common, they're partying hearty... and not one of them got to sleep before 2:00 AM last night.

It's inspiring, and at the same time I'm wondering if they're handing out meth party favors.

It's the first step, though.

Yeah, holy shit, Kessler's "fact check" is absolute crap.

I have a huge amount of respect for people who manage to pull themselves out of the cult and recognize it for what it is.

Seriously, think about how much Logis invested of himself into being a MAGA Republican. These people pour their entire identities into supporting Trump.

Breaking out of it must feel like cutting off their own arm. They've got the sunk-cost fallacy, personal ego, and relationships that are built almost entirely on political leanings working against them.

And they know how they'll be treated by former friends and loved ones, because - to their shame - they know how they treated people who managed to find the exits from MAGA-world.

So a huge amount of respect to Logis for getting out despite the enormous pressure he must have felt to stay in.

Just a heads up, there's a severe thunderstorm alert right now:

Just saying.

If you're attending, you can read the Peach Pit online here. I'm not going to be able to make it this year, but hope Eugeneans who can have a great time.

And stay hydrated! It's still going to be beastly hot out!

I'm linking this here because people who are spamming articles about "OMG Biden has Parkinson's disease!!!1!11" need to see this.

The New York Times did not do their homework. At all. Biden probably met with a Parkinson's doctor because he was working on a bipartisan Parkinson's research and treatment bill which he just signed into law.

It's not a flashy, attention-grabbing bill. He's been working on it quietly. But still... The rampant speculation, when he's absolutely not showing the slightest signs of beginning Parkinson's - let alone the advanced stages that would start to affect his mind - is disgusting.

Parkinson's causes extremely well-known symptoms, tremors most notably. Parkinson's dementia sometimes arises in advanced stages, long after tremors would have been constantly visible.

The chances he has Parkinson's are incredibly slim.

Hi everyone,

News is weird. When it's weird enough, it reads like articles from The Onion, and that's what we're all about. But as the community grows, there's more and more content being posted here that just isn't very Onion-y.

Jimmy Carter Becomes Second President Convicted Of Felony For Sticking Up Waffle House

Take a look at that headline from The Onion today. Or this one:

World Series Of Poker Entrants Play One Hand Face-Up So Everyone Can Learn Rules

Or this one:

New Hormone-Free IUD Wards Off Sperm With Steady Emission Of Police-Grade Pepper Spray

That's the flavor we're going for. We want real, credible news articles with headlines that read like they're from The Onion.

This is not the community for:

  • Non-Onion-y political news (it's gotta be absurd enough to look Onion-y)
  • Non-Onion-y regular news (it's gotta be absurd enough to look Onion-y)
  • Satire (it's gotta be actual news)
  • Fake news from fly-by-night "news" sites (again, it's gotta be actual news)

That means not every ridiculous thing a politician does qualifies as appropriate content here.

I need your help, though... I need people to report content that just isn't Onion-y, and I need people to try not to post non-Onion-y content in the first place.

Finally, I need help moderating, so this is also a formal call for new mods! Post below if you think you're ready to take on moderation for one of the larger Lemmy communities! Tell me why you'd like to mod, and link to a news story from any time (it doesn't have to be current) that has a properly Onion-y headline, to show that you really get this community.

I'll pick two people to become new moderators for the community from participants. Good luck!
