Klipsch has been a consistently good brand for a long time. I checked on ebay and there's some great ones for $200 to $300. Only 2.0 setups for that price, though.

You will need an amp for those unless it's got a built-in amp (some models have that).

I use an audio interface with bookshelf speakers... mostly overkill for people who don't make music because they have xlr and line level inputs for using a professional mic.

Do you have room in your computer setup for two bookshelf speakers at ear height? Because otherwise, I'd recommend a sound bar type of deal.

I learned about Palestine by reading the graphic novel by journalist Joe Sacco called Palestine. Despite being a graphic novel/"comic" it is based on his actual trips to Gaza and the west bank around 1991 and interviews with Palestinians.

It's better than doom scrolling which I have been doing a lot these last few days. You can download it free here: https://annas-archive.org/search?q=Palestine+joe+sacco

Not to mention, I doubt contraceptives are freely available. But yeah they should just live joyless, sexless, childless lives while getting genocided.

Smosh humor.

Cycling kickstarters have an awful track record. Make sure it's make by an actual cycling company and even then it's better to do a late pledge after some fulfillment and reviews.

It just sucks because he's getting a relatively "white glove" treatment compared to the usual drug war policies. Criminalization was always wrong and Joe Biden caused that in his actions in the Senate. If Joe Biden can learn empathy for drug addicts through his son I hope something good comes of it.

I could see a world in which the US becomes even more cucked for Saudi oil instead. Venezuela ain't gonna cut it.

Everything search app is easily my most used on my Windows PC. Instant, as-you-type file search by name with detail sorting and wildcard support. I set a keyboard shortcut as well. It puts Explorer search to shame. As good as Spotlight, which I was missing from when I had a Mac in 2008.

LaunchyQT - modern fork of Launchy that actually gets development. App launcher, dead simple.

FanControl - Fan curve software with all the features I want including hybrid temp sources, sensible automatic settings, visual graphs with an intuitive interface.

AutoHotKey - Hotkey scripting language that I can use even as someone who barely codes.

Transcribe! - Not open-source but it's a reasonably priced audio and video slow down app for transcribing.

Yeah, it makes very little sense to "play the long game" on a private site to spread malware to a small user base when you could just go to any public tracker where it's the Wild West. Could someone do it? Sure, but it's really not realistic to expect that regularly.

Some of them have freeleech on some torrents. TorrentLeech has freeleech on every torrent over a certain size (I think 15 GB) + Box Sets of any size and then you just have to seed for 10 days total, then you can stop without penalty to your ratio. I have never paid money to TorrentLeech for access. I suppose this would change quickly if I was downloading individual episodes of a new show or 10 to 14.99 GB torrents, but that's not my usual usage pattern.

I will say that some of your criticism is correct. I will often avoid using the private tracker to avoid having to seed for 10 days. I can't get to a 1.0 ratio on private trackers, but I can on public ones, but freeleech seeding adds to my ratio with no penalty for downloading. The zero-sum vibe is both real and off-putting.

I currently have a ratio surplus of 34 GB, and it started me with 25 GB. The benefit is if I really want something, it's easy to access

The general sidebar and the c/piracy sidebars are empty of guidance. If piracy links were clearly allowed, more people would post them. If piracy links aren't allowed, we keep ourselves safe from C&Ds, legal action, etc.

Right now, we have the worst of both worlds: we are vulnerable to legal action AND there is no clear mandate what forms of piracy are allowed so some people don't feel comfortable doing so, so posts trickle.

These I gather are okay because the sidebar links to r/piracy megathread backups:

  • Links to a directory of sites that host pirated content
  • Links to sites with direct downloads

Are these okay?

  • Links to specific releases via bittorrent
  • Links to specific releases via sites with direct downloads
  • News of specific releases but not linking

Some new users don't even know whether advocacy of piracy is okay. The only thing I've sort of gathered is that in practice, anything goes short of actually hosting copyrighted material on Lemmy servers. And that magnet links are apparently okay according to Dessalines' pinned post (but that should go in the sidebar if true).

I just tried installing Ubuntu Budgie spin on a USB and it seemingly deleted/replaced my Linux Mint bootloader from an internal drive so I could no longer boot Mint without plugging in the Ubuntu USB. When I tried to boot from the Mint drive I just got a blank Grub prompt instead of a list of kernels.

Thankfully I was able to reverse this using Timeshift.

How do you avoid this? I didn't see any relevant options in the Live USB install process. And I have had similar problems like this before.

The behavior I want is to have two standalone Linux bootloaders on separate drives. I suppose I could just disconnect all system drives during install so that the Ubuntu install process can't fuck with it...

I'm sure there's a lot of great stuff, but one highlight is Wanderhome by Jay Dragon which already costs more than the minimum bundle price.

As the title states, more variety, and lots of new posts are getting basically ignored, even some highish effort ones.

So you want to run Tears of the Kingdom on PC or Atmosphere?

If you come across any links that look like a long list of random characters, you will need to use https://www.base64encode.org/ to translate them to plain text.

What determines performance? Mainly Single and multi-thread CPU performance and Graphics Card VRAM amount. I get a decent 40fps+ experience using a Ryzen 5 3600 (12 threads) and RTX 3050 (graphics card is not THAT important though) and you can probably eke out 30-40 fps on older/worse hardware. Just don't expect solid 60fps without something better than I have.

Good general source of links and info: https://rentry.org/128bb

I'm going to skip some of the basic setup stuff, but you will need to get a prod.keys file. 128 Bit Bay has some of the basics you will need. Check out the "protecting yourself during piracy" guide, but you will want a VPN active while you are torrenting nowadays, as well as a good ad blocker extension.

Download Yuzu (or Ryujinx): https://yuzu-emu.org/downloads/ https://github.com/pineappleEA/pineapple-src/releases. Keep in mind you cannot ask official Yuzu channels for support on Pineapple builds because they are an unofficial source. However, EA/pineapple builds can offer significant performance improvements. They only provide support for EA builds (subscribe to their patreon) or the main build (free). Also, do not discuss piracy on the official Yuzu subreddit or their discord. This will jeopardize their ability to continue operating at all, ruining Switch emulation for everyone! If anyone asks, you dumped the game and keys from a soft modded Switch running cfw.

Download prod.keys or dump them from switch: https://github.com/Abd-007/Switch-Emulators-Guide/blob/main/Yuzu.md#keys Follow the guide to install them in your yuzu folder.

Download or dump ToTK NSP or XCI file: I usually use the Yandex search engine as they rarely/never censor piracy links. 128bitbay above has some links to Roms as well. Point Yuzu to the folder where you keep Switch game files. Then, install the update file to NAND (should end in .nsp). The current version is 1.1.2 with the best performance, but 1.1.1 has the "Y+B" dupe glitch.

OK, here's the fun part. Mods!
https://github.com/HolographicWings/TOTK-Mods-collection Easiest source of general-purpose mods. Click on releases on the right-hand side to go to the download page. Choose the version matching your game update. The page linked has descriptions of each mod. I personally use:

-720p Cheat method - Turn the resolution scaling to 2x in settings and you've got 1400p which is my monitor size. 60 FPS Static - Required for DynamicFPS to go higher than 30fps, or you can target 30fps by using the 30fps static mod + DynamicFPS. Alternatively, you can just use FPS++ without the static fps mod, they do the same thing but YMMV
-Island Fix
-LOD Improvement
-Shadows 1024x
-Anisotropic Filtering Fix
-Disable Internal FSR Downscaling
-UI Blackscreen Fix OR one of the controller UI mods which include it

Mods I use not on HolographicWings Github:
Serfrost's Defogger: https://gamebanana.com/mods/446995 Removes fog from nearby if that bothers you. Some people prefer to keep it, but I like the added clarity. See also: Better Fog mod on nexusmods

TotK Camera photo/jpeg quality increase mod: https://www.reddit.com/user/ChucksFeedAndSeed/comments/142cgde/totk_camera_photojpeg_quality_increase_mod_v112/

Other general ToTK Mod sources:
GameBanana
Nexus Mods
SomeRandomPeople Gbatemp thread (GBATemp is a great forum for emulation talk)
Chuck's Feed and Seed, prolific mod creator
TheBoy181 Prolific mod creator/remixer. Got a lot of undeserved hate because he paywalls a few of his mods, but he has HUNDREDS of great mods for other games completely free on GitHub. For example, I got an actually playable experience on Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity using his mods.

Recommended Yuzu settings: https://github.com/HolographicWings/TOTK-Mods-collection/blob/main/SETUP.md#gh-dark-mode-only Take note of the ASTC Recompression setting. You will need it if you have less than 8 GB of VRAM, especially if you are targeting a high resolution.

Yuzu Vulkan Shaders download: aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubWVkaWFmaXJlLmNvbS9maWxlL24xdmpydzRoMWgxNTg2cC8wMTAwZjJjMDExNWI2MDAwLjd6L2ZpbGU=
Put vulkan.bin in your TOTK shader pipeline cache folder. If it causes problems, you can clear the pipeline cache and make your own, but you will have some stuttering at first. Sharing shaders is piracy, FYI so don't talk about it on yuzu channels.

r/128bitbay remains, as well as their rentry.org page. But for a brief, glorious moment, thousands of people shared tips for how to get Tears of the Kingdom running smoothly!

Edit: Come to think of it, I could probably do a quick roundup post of relevant links to mods for TOTK emulation on Lemmy. I'll do that later.
