I work in a factory setting where our department is an open space, no cubicles. My boss moved right next to us and he’s sitting with us, seeing everything we do. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue, but he always makes comments if we’re checking our phones for even 30 seconds, switching songs in our playlist, or going to the bathroom (we don’t get 15 minutes breaks here). They’re very demanding here about our numbers for production and want a specific very high number per day. Even coworkers whose numbers are slightly less gets mocked in front of everyone by management. They set up “competition” where we compete to see who gets the highest numbers, and if you’re not first, management will laugh in your face about who got higher numbers than you, in front of the whole team. Lastly, we get paid minimum hourly wage. Wondering if it’s even all worth it to put up with this anymore

I’m working full time 32-40 hours at my crappy gas station job. Been planning on quitting a since before I even started my 1st shift. I just needed some form of consistent income. But it’s very hard to even save much

Wish every job paid enough to get your own place but in reality just gotta keep climbing the totem pole. I make right under $14 an hour which isn’t even close to enough to do anything. Hoping I can score some interviews in the next week or 2. Need a job paying $18-20+ minimum next. Anything under $17 is basically chump change especially where I live Florida.

He's trying to take my hours and called me a "little piece of shit." I've been working the same hours for a year, and the managers on duty were/are drama averse. This guy insists he works until 5 (food delivery; only one can work until 5.) He's not even on the schedule yet. Had to call the GM to verify that I work the hours I have worked for a YEAR. So demoralized, because I try so hard to be helpful and a team player and nobody had my back at all. Fuck this job!

Two months ago we found out my wife has stage 4 cancer and we had two months of multiple Dr appointments to do procedures and testing. When I brought it up to my boss I was told I could take all the time that I needed and not to worry. I took all my sick time and some of my PTO but had to still catch up on my work load because it wasn’t really covered by anyone. I haven’t been given any warnings or write ups the two years I’ve been working here. In fact my performance reviews have been flawless. It’s been a really toxic environment and more so dealing with my wife’s diagnosis, but it pays the bills for now. Seeing that I will be getting PIP soon came with a bit of a shock because I had no idea they were not happy with my performance. They have no idea that I know but I’m not sure what my next step should be. I could definitely use a break from work but only if I can collect unemployment. To spend time with my wife which we are also dealing with day 8 of no power after hurricane Beryl. Does anyone have advice on how I can best handle this situation? I’m going to do my own research as well but thought I could use this platform for any other advice. Both positive and negative will be appreciated.

I got snapped at for using headphones at work. The reason is cuz they want me to hear the conversations around me and learn that way. I’m partially deaf and wear hearing aids that’s not gonna work for me! Hearing half of a telephone conversation where the person isn’t facing me will not be remembered in my brain. I’ll hear mumbles and gibberish

In most places around the world work contract is guaranteed after working for a certain number of years. They can’t fire/lay you without causes and even then it’s hard.

Atwill states just cause such a tremendous amount of anxiety copulated with shitty unemployed benefits in some states. It’s a never ended cycle.

Got laid off and back to the resume grind.

We can just pick a day and make our voices heard, right? Am I being to optimistic? Especially with the upcoming election being in the state it's in, I think we can get away with bigger and better demands. Why not start organizing?

Left my job today to work somewhere with a better schedule. I did the responsible thing and gave my two weeks to both of my managers, and about 2 hours later I was called to the office and told “we’re just going to let you go now”.

It was very evident that my manager was emotional and wanted to try to screw me over one last time. Joke on him because now I can just take a paid 2 week vacation with all the PTO I had built up lol. Crazy how even when you do the right thing, jobs and corporations do not give a shit.

So I had two jobs, one cut my hours like crazy cause it’s not doing well, so I immediately went job searching. Found a nice job that offers benefits and whatnot, applied, got interviewed and hired ect ect. Well, I emailed my boss telling him I was putting in my two weeks, and he responded with a long paragraph that boiled down to “no need to come in, your position no longer exists”.

Talk about petty. But hey, I’ve got enough savings and I literally start this new job in two days, so I’ll be fine.

I’ve worked for my company loyally for 30 years and have a nice nest egg.

The last year has turned into a real shit show since a new executive took over my division. a nepotism case with no degree, no qualifications, running the division into the ground.

I only got a 3% raise this year despite recent inflation being as high as 9.5 I’m told not to expect more for the next two years. They have cut back on staff and a lot of the older employees have retired rather than dealing with the situation. So know I’m working more hours than ever just as I was planning on slowing down and taking extended vacations (which are being denied)

I’ve lost all motivation and plan on skating the next four years doing the minimum amount possible.

Anybody else doing or done the same thing?

Edit: it seems like most of those that checked like me are working for employers like mine. Expect 150% give employee the bare minimum.

You figure most professional organizations would know that if you give your employees the bare minimum, they will give you the bare minimum in return.

I (17) just got my first job and it seems way more stressful than it should be. I work at Raising Canes, the fast food restaurant, and so far it has been the weirdest environment.

different managers follow different rules. Im told different ways to clean things everyday and then told the way i was doing it is wrong. The next week ill see a manager do it the exact same way i WAS doing it.

I was trained on cooking toast for 5 minutes then sent into our busiest time. my manager acts awkward like IM the weird one for asking questions. she stares at me like i gave 3 heads and just goes “uhh..”

new people are hired every week it seems and someone is also fired every week. i have not seen a lot of my coworkers i liked return in a while. My favorite manager was just fired Too, and im worried my other manager is about to be fired too.

they have also mentioned cameras and microphones being around the building so they can “hear everything”. This is so stressful i cant stand it. I come home and cry every night. Im a closer. Im 17 years old and close every single weekend. I cant really see my friends. I was there 6-1 AM yesterday, 4PM-11PM the day before, 4PM-2AM (came in early, was scheduled 7PM-2 AM). I just work all night. Its every weekend almost. My hours and days are inconsistent too. I work tuesdays and thursdays randomly. I only have 15 hours next week. Then 22.5 after that. also why are they hiring a billion people???? Theres a new orientation with 6 people every two weeks. Were already overlabored nearly every single shift. I get sent home early all the time. my check this week is 159 (I get paid weekly). I feel like we shouldnt hire this much?

is being an adult really this bad??? Is it me or my job? I feel like its not normal to come home wondering if you’ll be fired next just bc you didnt charge for an extra sauce on accident. i like my coworkers but i hate hate hate my job. It would be so much easier if the work environment didnt feel so stressful and tense. i hate that they can “hear everything” we say all the time. I just wanna make some money to move out :/

I see too many companies say they encourage 'ownership'. Stop this bullshit. It's just a buzzword anyone says because it sounds good. But then in reality, employees aren't given the autonomy or resources to make real impactful decisions, and layers of bureaucracy kill initiative.

That's it, I just had to say that loud.
