Please just watch a waterpolo game. Its such a freaking great sport and its so underrated. Moved from hungary to sweden and literally nobody plays here... Id be happier if it was the hungarian womens team that got three golds in a row but even if its the US its a huge achievement. Im actually happy that the french put together a great team because the youth in france can see this amazing sport. Tho that loss in Doha hurt...

All right, your enthusiasm has convinced me. I don't know anything about water polo, but I'll look up a game on YouTube. Time to broaden my horizons!

Ah, so it's basically soccer, using hands instead of feet, while swimming. Looks like it would be a fun casual sport to play with friends and family (but in a much smaller pool lol).

Doubt it. The swim caps mush their ears down.

As someone who used to play WP, stopped in high school and after 6 years met with some old teammates to play one „casual“ game…twas very exhausting and not much fun

As long as you can stand on the bottom instead of treading, it can be casual & fun. Otherwise you need to be in incredible shape or have gills to have a chance.

I remember there being tube polo as an intramural sport at my university. I never played but it's another option to avoid mostly just drowning the whole time.

Wouldnt call it casual...

As someone who played a bit in high school: it’s basically competitive drowning. As in, you’re treading water with only your legs because ball/passing/blocking, and you get in a scrum, and you basically try to drown the other guy while he tries to drown you. It’s pretty crazy, and if you understand what’s going on, it’s kinda wild to watch, especially at the professional/olympic level. It can get pretty spicy.

And then there was the time the match wasn’t really about the match.

Yeah that match is kinda a national pride in hungary. We beat the whole ass USSR without help. And they played dirty as hell.
