There's something about learning loads of useless trivia that draws people, and TIL is really popular. Not only that, but TIL is an organic way to educate people, even on the most commonest of things. The reactionary-TIL has posts like "TIL about the tank man who resisted tanks with his bodie" and "TIL about stalins big spoon" resurfacing every few months, which serves to teach newcomers the lore of the liberal world, and the creation of its based counterpart here would teach the vibes-based ML worldview instead.

may haps i will request it... later

I've always been against the proliferation of comms on this site. It's too much atomization for a forum with maybe, being really generous here, a hundred active users

we've only ever needed to post in chapotraphouse and the megathread, and that's only cause the BADMINS took Main from us

all other comms are unnecessary bourgeois decadence

with maybe, being really generous here, a hundred active users

be for real there are way more than just 'a hundred active users' lmao. there were over 900 active users on the homepage in the last 24 hours.

yes, there is probably only a hundred people who are making new posts daily but there are way more users across the site than you're saying.

anyways we should be atomized - half the posts in ChapoTrapHouse are shit. The Megathread is uh, a single thread.

half the posts in ChapoTrapHouse are shit

and the solution is to make a literally identical comm and call it badposting!!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

unfortunately the difference between ChapoTrapHouse and Badposting is that badposting at least is self-aware about the average post being shit or unfunny. And that's not even pointing out the fact that the other half of the ChapoTrapHouse comm's posts are usually better suited in other communities. For example, looking at it right now - there are at least two (maybe even 3 depending on what you consider news) on the front page of the comm that would be better in News or Politics; one post that should probably be in AskChapo, and another that probably belongs in Chat.

Either way, both ChapoTrapHouse and Badposting are bottom of the barrel comms to me along with TheDunkTank. dean-smile

yeah but what if you simply disagree

Is the number of active users actually that low? It has always felt pretty active to me

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

there might be a hundred power posters but active users in general? no, that's at least in the high hundreds AFAIK, possibly into the thousands depending on how you define "active"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

I would be incredibly shocked if it's actually over that number not including random lemmy instance nerds

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

that's not a low amount for activitypub active users. there are thousands of these things

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

i thought the comms all go to the front page regardless?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

yeah but they're unnecessary and, therefore, bourgeois

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

for a forum with maybe, being really generous here, a hundred active users

I'm posting as hard as I possibly can, okay!?
