Wanna know how the numbers change for "Other Humans" when deaths due to car collisions are included? It gets 1.35 million added to it, and those were 2016 numbers.

Automobile drivers are by far the most deadly animal, blowing mosquitoes completely out of the water!

What a fucking joke of a statistic.

To the 400k you should add 1.2-1.4 million traffic deaths, 700k suicides, and we are not even talking about the deaths from armed conflicts, that climbed over 200k due to the war in Ukraine.

Additionally, this is counting the diseases mosquitos spread so what about the diseases humans spread regularly? Not counting pandemics or if they count, average them out across the same time span these averages are taken from.

Dog and mosquitoes get to have spreading disease added but human didn't get to have manslaughter and war added. So basically mosquitoes kill are 100% unintentional, very much like the pedestrian getting killed by automobile, but mosquitoes get blamed for it but human doesn't.

Very fair, much wow.

Tbf, it should include spreading deadly diseases of humans among other humans too.

Wow, I wish you hadn't just told me about assassin bugs.

Fun thing about Chagas, the disease Assassin bugs transmit to gain their bodycount. Trypanosoma cruzi (the protozoa that cause the disease) has developed a nasty little trick where it'll offload snippets of its DNA into the host organism. This will usually cause a auto-immune disease, both weakening the host and diverting some of the efforts of the immune system.

The interesting thing about this is one of the cells it can offload the DNA into are sex cells which means it becomes a heritable trait and becomes a part of the host genome. So there are naturally GMO humans out there with chunks of protozoa DNA in them... usually to their sorrow since the DNA is geared for causing auto-immune disorders.

Edit: Fixed typo.

Assassin bugs give you aids, got it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

apparently they use scopes so they don't miss like noobs

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

> Is named "assassin bug"

> Doesn't even make it to the top 3 in the lethality list

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

assassin, not mass murderer. they kill with intent.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Assassin bug has some rookie numbers with a name like that

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago

Assassin bugs only kill for money. Mosquitos do it because they’re out for blood.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Homicides only, because if you included suicide, that alone would be #1.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Technically, that should be clear, as suicide, by definition, is committed by the victim themself and not by an 'other human'.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Around 1 million traffic deaths worldwide annually? And we never count those who were merely crippled

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Don't forget all the accidents that leave people with life-changing brain injuries too. There are a lot of them.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Technically, a lot of traffic deaths aren't by "other humans" but by "rapidly becoming stationary"

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Damn you Newton! Stop inventing Physics you murderer!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

And the other part is by "rapidly being accelerated from state at rest".

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Some of it is likely due to sudden compression or “rapid unplanned disassembly “

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Aren't assassin bugs harmless? Why the body count at all?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

They transmit T cruzi (Chagas’ disease), which can cause heart failure

10 deadliest animals to humans
