But...free housing eliminates homelessness? Am I reading this wrong?

Yes, but the disgusting liberal doing the original crack-copium post said "housing is free, homelessness is down"

So, RKJr asks: Why "down" and not zero?

Because I'm 100% sure the liberal had the thought process I described.

Even in their "Liberal democracy won against the evil communists and the U.S. rules the world with a benevolent fist" day dream there are still people living in tents.

How would free housing increase homelessness. Today you can just go be homeless if you want to. It's free! Just walk outside and don't walk back inside. Anyone who genuinely wants to do that could do it. Right now. In fact probably everyone who wants to do it already is because anyone could at any time.

So free housing would mean that the only people who want to be homeless are homeless, and anyone who doesn't, isn't. This is a great scenario, because everyone gets what they as an individual wants. Even assuming literally 100% of homeless folks want to be homeless, free housing wouldn't increase that number, it would make it the same. And that's a huge assumption because I personally know unhoused folks who would indeed like to be housed.

The smoothness of this brain can be measured in microns.

this is already what every US property owner believes

Then free houses for the homeless who want them should be a no brainer for them because it would cost nothing!

are you serious? if every US state and local government had a magic button that created a free home out of thin air for every currently unhoused person, they would unanimously destroy that button without a second thought to prevent any potential decrease in existing property resale price.

The USSR, having completely free college, healthcare and education, having literally 0% houselessness, and housing costing 3-4% of the average family income: хахахахахаха
