Rules:

  5. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  6. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

Sadly, that won't matter to the account's conservative "fans."

Yes, if an online account is behaving that way, it's almost certainly a fake intended to induce rage (and short-circuit critical thinking).

But let's say the conservative behind the account is positively identified, or it's clearly determined that the account is operated out of a Macedonian troll farm. Nothing anyone says to conservatives who believe it's real will change their minds, because they actively want to believe in it.

I've long suspected that some of the "radical left" accounts were fake and their only purpose was to rile up the conservatives. This article is really validating. It's just going to get worse, though, because none of the platforms care as long as they're getting engagement.

(And yes, that goes for some of the over-the-top accounts on the right too.)
