Takayuki Yamaguchi (Shigurui)

Motherfucker you have time to defend pedophiles but you won't finish your fucking series or get it translated into English?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Hasn't Shigurui been finished for a long time? It's just the one fight and its backstory, not the whole original novel.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 hours ago

I dunno. I know season 2 of the anime never happened because at the time the manga wasn't done and they didn't want to make changes. But that was over a decade ago and there still isn't an official English translation.

paying a $1,500 fine seems like a pretty light sentence for having a hundred DVDs of CSAM

[–] [email protected] 17 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

He said he was sorry so it's okay.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

peppino-ha it cost him more than $1,500 to buy the accursed DVDs!!1

[–] [email protected] 11 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

In fact he's very, very sorry and pinkie promised to stop being a pedo. It's all good now.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 12 hours ago

I had to look this one up and had the same thought! Talk about a slap on the wrist.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I don't quite understand the significance. Can someone explain?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

It's an event celebrating a convicted sex offender. He had enough DVD's of CSAM that the authorities thought he was a dealer.

He paid a fine of ¥200,000 (<$1500usd) as his only punishment, too japan-cool

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

So CSAM is basically legal in Japan?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

~~I don't remember the specifics of Watsuki's case, but it was material that might have been legal to purchase at some time or something else awful like that.~~

Edit: Found this article from back when he was charged.

spoiler

In Japan, the possession of child pornography became totally illegal in July 2015. Under the law, people found with explicit photos or video of real children can be imprisoned for up to one year and fined up to 1 million yen (about 8,900 US dollars).

But if you get caught doing drugs ever in Japan, your career is fucking over. japan-cool

Hirohiko Araki

Goddammit man anti-valentine-action hesitation-2

[–] [email protected] 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Did you read any part after 6? The content of 7, 8, and I think 9 in the very first chapter (I forget the age of the character assaulted there) make it obvious that he's fine with this sort of thing.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 hours ago

That's fair, there's pedo stuff in 3 and 4, I was just thinking of the "habit" Araki fell into of depicting eroticized assault of minors, which I don't think starts until 7.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Yusuke Murata

I'm disappointed but wholly unsurprised. Horny Tatsumaki pictures predicted this.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

There is also Lily (Fubuki's underling) that is getting weirdly sexualized despite being 14. Volume 20 cover art to be specific.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 hours ago

She's a Murata OC too, so there's all the more blame

[–] [email protected] 9 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, I mean, he's made her a series mascot while her design gets increasingly sexualized to the point that it's like a step below softcore loli. I really like the series otherwise, but the depictions of Tatsumaki that he goes out of his way to add make me uncomfortable. She's not like that in the webcomic! She's closer to being a sassy moe blob.

THE YU GI OH GUY IS DEAD TOO???

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

If it’s any consolation, he died trying to save people from a rip current.

Why would Mako Tsunami do this

I was a bit upset at first, because I thought the "not on list" one was the bad one.

Refreshing to know some of my favorite artists are good. Maybe less refreshing when they're outnumbered ten to one.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe less refreshing when they're outnumbered ten to one.

I'm so angry, this is everyone I used to read til shitty follow-on serieses happened with sole exception of I don't see Toyotaro's name on this list. Thank god Toriyama died before this could come to pass, I don't know how utterly wrathful I'd be if I saw his name crop up here too but it'd be pretty damned close to Old Testament at that point.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 13 hours ago

I think there's a certain bunker mentality among artists - be they Hollywood writer/directors or Tokyo manga authors and illustrators - that compel them to show a certain degree of solidarity regardless of how awful the people they're defending are. And that's in no small part because the production companies and corporate suits have them under siege, doing insane amounts of work for mediocre pay, in an industry where being a pervert is considered a fringe benefit.

You see it with politicians, too. "They're all out to get us" combined with "If I don't get to be a freak, why would I even keep doing this thankless job?" Leads to some perverse social incentives.

~~Under no circumstances do we have to hand it to the fascist creator of demon slayer.~~

My mistake, I completely shortcircuited and mistook 'demon' for 'goblin'. I don't think demon slayer is too fash, at least for anime standards.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

is the demon slayer author fascist for real?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Even if they aren't consciously fash, the text is extremely fascist. Anyone who creates work without examining those undertones isn't really trustworthy.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

"Extremely" is an exaggeration, just looking at the text

spoilerI need to assume that you're basically accusing it of doing a Goblin Slayer, and I likewise need to insist that this is a very lazy reading. It is made very explicit that being a demon is basically a transmissible human health condition caused by medical experimentation. No one has been or seemingly could be born a demon (the only apparent exception are those sub-sentient fish creatures the jar demon spawns, but they also might just be an extension of him since demons are many times shown to have these sorts of connections to each other or separate parts of themselves), they weren't born out of anything but humanity, and the condition can even be reversed medically, though that discovery is of course late-coming. On top of all that, it is readily shown that demons can be good people who don't do murder, and indeed ~4 are shown to choose not murdering, it's just that the people Muzan picks out are ones who are more likely to give in to the desire to eat people. There are many things separating this conceptually from some sicko racial allegory like Goblin Slayer is.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 hours ago

Oh no I brainfarted. I mistook demon for goblin lol. Yeah demon slayer is a bit fash but not as bad as goblin slayer.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 16 hours ago
