Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Japan's ruling parliamentary coalition, consisting of the LDP (purple) and it's junior coalition partner Komeito (in light pink) have lost their ruling majority. They have ruled post-war Japan for almost its entire history. The LDP is currently led by Shigeru Ishiba after Kishida stood down due to a corruption scandal, and ties to the Unification Church.

While geopolitical factors (over the cold war between the US and China, etc) may have played a role, by far the biggest reason for this result in the poor economic conditions over the past few years. Inflation has risen and real wages have fallen, with little relief for the working class via things like tax reductions. While inequality in Japan is not as extreme as in America, it is still profound, with the top 10% possessing 60% of the wealth, while the bottom 50% possess just 5%.

Shinzo Abe previously tried to boost economic performance through monetary easing and fiscal deficits, while Kishida ran on a "new capitalism" which rejected Abe's neoliberalism and promised to reduce inequality. Nothing substantial has resulted from all this, however, other than increasing corporate wealth. Innovation continues to fall, and domestic profitability is low, resulting in decreasing investment at home by Japanese corporations. Labour productivity growth has only slightly picked up since the mid-2000s and is falling again. The rate of profit has fallen by half since the 1960s, and Japan has been in a manufacturing recession - or very close to it - since late 2022. In essence: there is no choice but between stagnation or decline.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Zelenskiy

the media changes spellings of this guy's last name more frequently than the way chuds imagine zoomers change pronouns

as a real response to the article, no shit. that $60b aid package included a bunch of actual gear but also a huge amount of it was US congress printing funbux vouchers that could be used to order new weapon systems for later delivery

In the Ukraine bill, of the $60.7bn, a total of about $23bn would be used by the US to replenish its military stockpiles, opening the door to future US military transfers to Ukraine. Another $14bn would go to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, in which the Pentagon buys advanced new weapon systems for the Ukrainian military directly from US defense contractors.

There is also more than $11bn to fund current US military operations in the region, enhancing the capabilities of the Ukrainian military and fostering intelligence collaboration between Kyiv and Washington, and about $8bn in non-military assistance, such as helping Ukraine’s government continue basic operations, including the payment of salaries and pensions.

The $23b tranche is for replenishing military stockpiles, meaning that $ is for the US government to buy new shit from defence contractors, put it in the stockpile pile, and then potentially draw on it via 'presidential drawdown authority', which is the primary mechanism that the US has used to send materiel to ukraine.

I track how often the names says Kiev instead of Kyvv. That is the sign of their ethnonationalism being thrown under the bus.

Biden suggests Trump supporters are ‘garbage’ after comic’s insult of Puerto Rico

In a call organized by the Hispanic advocacy group Voto Latino, Biden on Tuesday responded to a comic at Trump’s rally who called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” Biden’s initial comments were garbled.

“Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Well, let me tell you something, I don’t, I don’t know the Puerto Rican that I know, the Puerto Rico where I’m fr -- in my home state of Delaware. They’re good, decent honorable people,” he said.

The president then added: “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.* His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American. It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been.”

White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Biden “referred to the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as ‘garbage.’” In referring to Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” however, Biden’s tone was at odds with the message that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris is seeking to present as she aims to cast a broad appeal, including to disaffected Republicans. Shortly after Biden’s comments, Harris spoke from the Ellipse in Washington, vowing to be a president who would unite the country.

“I pledge to be a president for all Americans,” said Harris, who is Biden’s vice president.

"Muh Unity", fucking spineless democrats no wonder they are going to lose. #WriteinBiden

It's true. Right after he got out of jail in South Africa, Joe Biden moved to Guayama and joined the Puerto Rican Nationalist movement.

train-chad So much for SKA! train-chad

Another strong showing from the railwaymen! Lokomotiv and SKA traded goals through the first period but Lokomotiv came out ahead and kept it that way through the rest of the game ending it 3-2 in Lokomotiv's favor!

Holy shit it really is Hillary 2.0.

Once again the dems said one true thing and called the bigots garbage and so kamala is gonna spend the final 72 hours talking about how trump supporters aren't racist and "she would never say anything bad about a group of people just based on who they vote for"

Libs will say they hope you get executed by fascists if you vote for Jill stein but clutch their pearls at the suggestion that racist dumbasses are garbage.

Reading this gave me bad flashbacks to nyc radlibs claiming they knew more about my own culture than me while citing stupid shit like this.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

She really is the next Pelosi.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I think she will be indefinitely used as a sheepdog unless she becomes full-blown neoliberal.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Well she failed at this role when October 7th hit. Instead of acting like a lefty sheepdog she just lined up with the neoliberals to support Genocide. She doesn’t even know what she’s supposed to be doing apparently

[–] [email protected] 23 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The neoliberal role of Pelosi is more about pretending that all domestic social spending proposals are "unpragmatic" while giving more money to hedge funds.

There is a long legacy of labor Imperialists that AOC can ape while sheepdogging without being explicitly neoliberal. Lining up with the neoliberals for their imperialism is something a sheepdog can certainly manage. Much of the Democratic-aligned labor policy demands are just thinly-veiled nationalism, an attempt to align US foreign policy interests (like undermining China) with the interests of the union (expansion of members / dues).

[–] [email protected] 24 points 22 hours ago (4 children)

Her job when October 7th happened was to gain the trust and sympathy of the more squishy and soft-brained Palestine supporters, and bring them back into the DNC fold

Instead she drew a hard zionist line and alienated her base, and drew nobody back into the fold.

She failed at her job because she doesn't even know that's what she is. She thinks she needs to sell out and become Pelosi 2 very slowly over time to become politically powerful, and she just needs to do it slow enough that nobody notices the shift.

And I'm sure it'll be exactly like when Genocide Joe promised me $2000 and only gave me $1400. Where's my rent, Joe??

I guess this is supposed to be the other $1400 they still owe us from Biden's lies in 2020?
